Two walkoffs and two shutout victories highlight a nearly perfect Monday night on the farm as the #BlueJays affiliates won five out of six.

Dunedin 7 Clearwater 0

Kevin Smith homered in the first to give Dunedin all the offence they would need but they added six more anyway in the third just to make sure. Riley Adams hit a grand slam to join Smith, Brock Lundquist and Ivan Castillo in the two-hit club. Rodrigo Orozco was the hit leader with three and also a stole a base.

Maverik Buffo's Florida State League debut could take your breath away. He scattered three hits and a walk over eight shutout innings. He had five strikeouts and seven groundball outs. Jake Fishman finished things up in the ninth.

Vancouver 3 Spokane 0 (6 Innings - Final)

The C's managed to squeeze in the win between the raindrops. Christopher Bec hit a two-run homer that managed to stay fair down the left field line in the fifth. Bec's homer scored a Bryan Lizardo walk after a nine-pitch at bat. Griffin Conine had a fielder's choice RBI in the sixth to score a Vinny Capra free pass.

Jose Espada gave up just one hit and one walk over five innings and struck out eight. Jose Nunez worked a clean sixth for the save. More details on the game right here.

Bluefield 7 Kingsport 5 (10 Innings)

A bases-load walk by Cal Stevenson walked it off for the Bluef-Jays after trailing 6-1 at one point. They also needed a four-run ninth to force the game into the extra frame. Andres Guerra hit a two-run homer and Alejandro Kirk had a two-run single. Guerra, Dominic Abbadessa and Luis De Los Santos had two hits apiece.

Eric Pardinho hit his first bump in the road by giving up four runs on five hits over 4-1/3 innings but he struck out seven and walked only one. Sean Rackoski got the win by getting the final two outs in the tenth to strand a pair of runners.

Small point, I doubt Fishman got a save. All the scoring was done early and Buffo went 8 innings. Not sure how he'd meet the criteria.

Buffo now has a terrific 103/19 K/BB ratio for his pro career.

The GCL Jays turned a triple play today, third to second to first. The game was a continuation of a previous game stopped by rain.

Interesting. They must be pretty confident in health, otherwise you're just setting him up to fail.

From FG's Daily Notes

Maverik Buffo, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays (Profile)
Level: Hi-A Age: 22 Org Rank: NR FV: 30
Line: 8 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 5 K

Notes
Buffo, who has a tailing upper-80s fastball and average slider, is probably an upper-level depth arm. He throws strikes and has great makeup, so he’s nice to have in an organization. Sometimes those guys shove and make the Daily Notes, and sometimes they’re also named Maverik Buffo.

would not be surprised to see Biggio move up with him....and then a number of ensuing promotions from lower levels.

In regards to the Buffo report, I saw him pitch in the spring and he was working in the 90s. I could see being a viable big league pitcher (kind of like Fisk) if they move him to the pen where he can empty the tank more quickly.

Maverick Buffo is apparently named after Top Gun ...kids these days, although I guess I'm talking about his parents in this case ....
Pat and Buck would love the guy, since he's a 'winner' - 15-4 for his minor league career.  Surprised to hear his FB is so slow, Jay Blue noted that he'd touched 94 in HS.  I'm happy to see the aggressive promotions thus far in his career though, with his ridiculously good BB% and mediocre stuff, let's get him starting against age-appropriate opposition as soon as possible.

We've got a LOT of these types of players pitching in the low minors - late round picks, low pedigree, old for their level - it's a consequence of the up-the-middle position player preference for the draft team.  Buffo is one of the few from 2017, along with Ty Tice and maybe Jordan Barrett, that have impressed enough to follow.

Buffo's last game on July 4, the Lansing announcers only gave 4 stadium gun readings. 1st inning 91 and 93, 91 in the 2nd and a 93 in the 4th.

Stadium guns are often "hot"... if the FG boys were there, their guns would be more accurate.

Hope it's not serious, but Hagen Danner was hit by a pitch and left the game with an injured hand.

He was really just coming around as a prospect as well.
