The affiliates split their two games on Monday. One of them featured the rehabbing left side of the Toronto infield. New Hampshire was rained out. Buffalo had no baseball game on the docket.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Josh Donaldson played his first rehab game and was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat before striking out twice in his two at-bats. JD was replaced by Matt Dean at third base. Donaldson handled four groundballs, getting three assists. Troy Tulowitzki was 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout before Kevin Vicuna took over at short. Tulo had three grounders head his way, getting two assists that included a 6-4-3 double play. Max Pentecost was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and four runs batted in as the designated hitter.

T.J. Zeuch had a three-up, three-down first inning but gave up a home run to start the second and it was downhill from there. Four singles and a double produced four more runs in the frame. Four more singles and a walk led to three more runs in the third. Zeuch faced the minimum over the next two frames thanks to an inning-ending double play. Three of the singles were soft line drives and two were ground ball singles to third and short. He struck out five, walked two and had seven groundball outs.

Lansing Lugnuts

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. put together his fourth-straight multi-hit game by going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI and is 10-for-15 overall. Bo Bichette went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk with a run knocked in. He has a trio of two-hit games in his last five. Bradley Jones doubled twice, scored twice and drove home three. The Lugnuts did the bulk of their damage against Indians 2015 first rounder Brady Aiken.

Tayler Saucedo was an out short of getting the win so Chris Hall got it instead, his first Midwest League victory. Geno Encina threw two shutout frames to get his earned run average down to 0.96.

Now, does trading for a veteran catcher aged late 20s and early 30s who are playing in a Triple-A team for a chance the MLB make sense? Either way, he plays good offense as catcher or in multiple positions that he can replace Coghlan.

we've got that guy already Cyber - Raffy Lopez, 29 years old, options remaining, and brief cups of big league coffee with both the Cubs and the Reds.  He's raking right now for the Bisons, and #2JBrumfield linked to an above article from Buffalo that called him clutch behind the plate, although that is the only thing I've read on the guy's D ....

with a host of catching prospects on the horizon, I don't see us needing to make a move for more minor league catching.

Do you mean a poster shall search for the answer or information first before asking the question that leads to the answer? About Lopez, if Maile worsens his hitting performance, may Lopez get another MLB cups of coffee in Toronto?

not at all cyber, ask away!  I'm just a big nerd that enjoys making minor league depth-charts ....

Lopez might have to replace Maille - his glove is great, but he's not hitting whatsoever.   How much offense is the bare minimum for a backup catcher with a good glove and arm?

About Lopez, his annual progression in batting performance is roughly:

aged 24 -- .742 in A+, .692 in A
aged 25 -- .742 OPS in AA
aged 26 -- .879 OPS in AA, .707 OPS in AAA, .468 in MLB
aged 27 -- .674 OPS in AAA
aged 28 -- .560s OPS in AAA, .000 in MLB
aged 29 so far in 2017-- .999 OPS in AA, 1.165 OPS in AAA

From age 25-26, he progressed about 160s OPS points from per season. If he was promoted to AAA, his OPS dropped about the same. Age 27, his OPS remained noy progressing. Age 28 was an outlier because he only had 169 PAs in AAA -- his max that season.

Noticing his OPS increase at each level, he took more time at higher level. That is expected because he is not a hitting prospect in catching anyway. This season, his jump from .879 to .999 is on the lower boundary of his 160s increase. If he played more aged 28 in AAA, his AAA OPS would be about .840 OPS. Furthermore, he took 3 previous AAA seasons for his 1.164 OPS this season. Given his taking time each level and Maile's hitting, Lopez may get cups of 2017 MLB coffee in Toronto with his AAA OPS.
