There was a lot of late inning action on Wednesday. New Hampshire came back to tie their game but their bullpen, and defense, blew it in the eighth. Dunedin had a six run lead thanks mainly to Anthony Alford. But Adonys Cardona gave up four runs in the eighth. The Jays were able to rally to win. Vancouver looked to be in line for their first win in a week but they lost to a walk off in the ninth. The GCL Jays came from behind to beat the Tigers bullpen.
Buffalo and Lansing lost from early in the game. Bluefield won thanks to the bottom of their order.
Buffalo 0 Scranton 6
Make it an eight game losing streak for the Bisons. They were outhit, out pitched and out fielded. Buffalo had just three hits. They had two in the first inning, from Colabello and Goins, but a double play ended the inning. Darrell Ceciliani had the third, and final, hit in the fifth but he was eliminated by another double play. Dalton Pompey lined into a DP in the sixth, following a walk. And a repeat in the ninth when a walk was followed by Pompey grounding into a DP. Buffalo left one runner on base.
Casey Lawrence pitched reasonably well and didn't give up an earned run. In the third an infield single was followed by a throwing error by Lawrence on a bunt. With two outs a double scored both runs. Then in the sixth Scranton loaded the bases with one out on another infield single, a fly ball single and a walk. Lawrence got a grounder to first but Matt Dominguez threw the ball away on the force attempt at home. Two runs scored. A sac fly scored the fifth run. Lawrence was pulled after allowing seven hits and one walk in his 5.2 innings. Ben Rowen was taken deep for the last run.
New Hampshire 4 Harrisburg 5
Just as Buffalo's fielding let them down so too for the Fisher Cats. In a tied game in the eighth inning a hit batter and a Christian Lopes error let Harrisburg score the winning run without a hit. The Fisher Cats had Emilio Guerrero at third with one out in the ninth but couldn't get him home. New Hampshire also had a 3-2 lead in the seventh before Murphy Smith was taken deep for a two run home run. Shane Dawson made the start and he pitched well over his six innings. His line was a respectible 6 4 2 2 1 6. He too was taken deep for a two run home run. Those home runs were a big difference maker as New Hampshire outhit Harrisburg 9-6.
Derrick Loveless doubled and scored the first run on a ground out. Shane Opitz singled to drive in two in the seventh and after the Senators went ahead Dwight Smith and Ryan Lavarnway doubled to tie the game in the eighth. Lavarnway and Emilio Guerrero each had two hits.
Lakeland 9 Dunedin 10
Dunedin led 6-0 before falling behind 9-7. They rallied for three runs in the eighth and held on to win. Anthony Alford was the centre of the Jays run to a 6-0 lead. He tripled and scored in the first. He tripled again in the second to drive in the second and third runs before Richard Urena singled in Alford to make it 4-0. Alford doubled leading off the fourth. Jonathan Davis tripled him home and Davis scored on a wild pitch. Conor Fisk gave back five runs over the next two innings thanks, in part, to two home runs allowed. Mike Reeves homered to get it back to a two run lead. Adonys Cardona came on for the eighth and could not get an out. Four hits and a walk later the was pulled but replacement Dusty Isaacs gave up a double to the first hitter he faced and the Jays were down.
Leading off the eighth, and down by two, Urena homered to make it a one run game. Jonathan Davis singled, Gunnar Heidt doubled to tie the game and Mike Reeves singled to bring in the winning run. Isaacs did nail down the save. Reeves had four hits, Alford, Urena and Davis had three each.
Lansing 1 Bowling Green 4
Tayler Saucedo was not at his best, four innings, four runs, nine hits. Josh DeGraaf was excellent in relief, four shutout innings with seven K's.
The Lugnuts had seven hits, Max Pentecost had three. Ryan Hissey had two including a triple. He scored the only run when Ryan Metzler singled.
Vancouver 5 Everett 6
Vancouver have been struggling recently so when they scored three runs in the eighth to take a 5-3 lead to the ninth, it looked like a win. Jackson McClelland came on for the save and it turned into a nightmare. Double, single, double, walk started the inning. An out at home was followed by a walk off single. It was the fourth blown save and second loss for McClelland.
Denis Diaz started and went five innings, two runs on eight hits. Travis Bergen pitched a clean inning. The three hitters at the top of the order, Cavan Biggio, Joshua Palacios and JB Woodman, had two hits each and six of Vancouver's eight hits. They also scored four of the five runs.
Bluefield 6 Kingsport 4
The bottom third of the order had six of the Jays nine hits. Levi Scott had two, Matt Morgan one and Jesus Severino three with two RBI. The two three in the order, including Reggie Pruitt and Vlad Jr. each had a hit.
Yennsy Diaz went 5.2 and gave up two runs. He had five strikeouts and allowed four hits. Brayden Bouchey was responsible for the other two Met runs. Connor Eller got the last five outs.
GCL Tigers West 1 GCL Blue Jays 2
Three solo home runs decided this game. Detroit struck first with a homer in the fourth off starter Travis Hosterman. Hosterman is just 17 years old and was the Jays 11th round pick in this summers draft. The Jays tied it up in the sixth when David Jacob hit his fifth home run. In the seventh Miguel Almonte hit his second, the game winner.
Hosterman went 3.1 innings, four hits allowed and three K's. Alvaro Galindo, an 18 year old Columbian, pitched two innings in relief. It was Galindo's North american debut, he was promoted from the DSL where he struckout 46 in 43 innings. David Jacob had two hits, the 32nd rounder continues to rake. Ryan Gold had a double and the 18 year old is hitting .317 in his first year.
