Buffalo 2 Durham 3
Scott Diamond, through four innings, had not conceded a hit. In the fifth he allowed four of them leading to two runs. Buffalo got one back right away, Jesus Montero doubled in Domonic Brown. Diamond finished out six innings and was replaced by Chad Jenkins. In the top of the eighth Dalton Pompey led off with a double and later scored on a sac fly by Montero. Jenkins came back out for the eighth in what was now a tied game. The first two outs came quickly but then Richie Shafer singled. Nick Franklin doubled and Junior Lake made a throwing error that let the winning run score. Buffalo had a walk in the ninth but were not close to tying the game.
Jenkins took the loss although the run was unearned. Diamond's line was 6 4 2 2 2 4. The Bisons had only five hits, Pompey was 2-3 with a walk.
Portland 1 New Hampshire 2
Derrick Loveless made his first start in AA and it was one to remember. New Hampshire were trailing 1-0 in the seventh inning when Loveless came to the plate with a runner on. Loveless clubbed a two run home run to give the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead. Murphy Smith and Wil Browning closed it out from there to seal the win for NH who have been playing better recently. After a rough start the Fisher Cats have won five of their last six games.
Shane Dawson started and went five innings. On the positive side he only allowed one run and generated six ground balls to one fly ball. On the negative side he had ten base runners, seven hits and three walks and he used 93 pitches to get through five innings. Brady Dragmire followed Dawson and pitched two good innings. On the hitting side Jon Berti and Dwight Smith had two hits each. Smith is looking to warm up after a bad start. Smith has five hits in the last three games.
Clearwater 9 Dunedin 7
A seven run fifth inning was enough for Clearwater to win. Brad Allen started coming off an excellent start. On Wednesday he was charged with nine runs over 4.2 innings. On Tuesday the Jays ran short of pitchers and Dickie Thon pitched. As a result the Jays called up Nate Abel from extended. Abel pitched 2.1 shutout innings. Adonys Cardona pitched another clean inning with two K's.
David Harris and Emilio Guerrero each had a home run and two RBI's. Richard Urena and Dickie Thon had two hits each. Urena's two hits pushed his average back over .300.
Lansing 1 Bowling Green 6
Tayler Saucedo has had a mixed start to 2016. In five appearances covering 21.2 innings he has conceded five earned runs for an ERA of 2.08. In his other two starts he has pitched a total of five innings with 13 earned runs. Wednesday was one of those bad starts as Saucedo gave up five runs in the third and he didn't last the inning. A solo home run got things started and several singles, a hit batter and a wild pitch later Saucedo was done for the day. The hitters were no help, though eight innings the only hits were Canadian, by Justin Atkinson and Connor Panas.
Lansing scored a consolation run in the ninth, Andrew Guillotte doubled, Gunnar Heidt had a pop up single and Ryan Hissey had a sac fly. And that was it, four hits for the Lugnuts. Starlyn Suriel pitched 3.1 innings and allowed a run. Dan Lietz pitched two perfect innings to finish out.
