It was a winning Thursday night on the farm as Buffalo and New Hampshire won their home openers and Dunedin was victorious on the road. As for the Lansing nine, they were about as successful as Leisure Suit Larry.

Buffalo 2 Rochester 1

Buffalo, NY
- The Herd won their home opener by scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings after the Twins affiliate opened the scoring with a run in their half of the sixth. Andy Burns tied things up with an RBI single up the middle to score Dalton Pompey's double before Junior Lake doubled home the winning run in the seventh. Burns had a two-hit night, Lake also walked to get aboard twice and Tony Sanchez added a single.

Scott Diamond (2-0, 1.50) went seven solid innings, scattering six hits and striking out five. The pride of Guelph, Ontario also induced nine groundball outs. The bullpen slammed the door shut with Ryan Tepera striking out the side in the eighth and David Aardsma getting his third save with a 1-1 K/BB ninth.

New Hampshire 4 Trenton 3 (10 Innings)

Manchester, NH
- The Fisher Cats won their official home opener by walking one off against the Yankees affiliate. Facing a 4-0 deficit, New Hampshire rallied for three runs in the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Rowdy Tellez and K.C. Hobson before a wild pitch and a throwing error by the catcher led to the other two runs. Another Trenton error and a Jon Berti RBI single in the seventh gave the Fisher Cats the lead. The 10th inning saw Jon Berti lead off with a single but he was picked off. Tellez then drew a two-out walk before being replaced on the basepaths by Ian Parmley, who  stole second and scored on a Melky Mesa base hit. Berti, Mesa and Hobson had two hits with Berti stealing a base. Roemon Fields walked twice and Jorge Flores had a single. Dwight Smith Jr. was 0-for-4.

Luis Santos had a tough first inning but hung around for 5-2/3 innings and struck out eight. Murphy Smith picked up him with 2-1/3 innings of shutout relief that included four whiffs. Chris Smith served up the game-tying home run in the ninth but Wil Browning (1-0) got the final out of the 10th with a strikeout for the victory.

Dunedin 3 St. Lucie 0

Port St. Lucie, FL
- The Jays made a three-run first inning stand up to beat the Mets. J.D. Davis opened the scoring with a two-out home run which was followed by a Jason Leblebijian single to cash in a Ryan McBroom double and a D.J. Davis RBI single. Both Davises, Leblebijian and Dickie Joe Thon all had two-hit games. Danny Jansen was 0-for-4.

Ryan Borucki (1-1, 7.71) limited the Mets to four hits and a walk over five scoreless frames that included two punchouts. Adonys Cardona struck out two in 1-1/3 innings before Tim Mayza got the final eight outs, punching out three and walking only one, for the save.

Bowling Green 8 Lansing 4

Bowling Green, KY
- The dream for a perfect night on the farm died on the blue grass of Kentucky. This game was tied at 1-1 before the Rays affiliate busted the game open with seven runs in their last three turns at bat. Lane Thomas tied the game for the Lugnuts with his first home run of the season in the sixth. Andrew Guillotte singled and scored on an error in the eighth before driving in two more in the ninth with a two-out base hit. Thomas, Guillotte and Connor Panas all put up a '2' in the hit column. Gunnar Heidt singled, walked and stole his third base of the year. The ugly stat in this one for the Lugnuts was 18 in the team strikeout column with Ryan Hissey and Jacob Anderson donning the golden sombreros.

Jon Harris gutted it out by holding the Hot Rods to an unearned run over four frames. He had a passed ball to contend with in the first but managed to strand runners at second and third to end the first inning. An error by J.C. Cardenas at short in the fourth resulted in the unearned run. Harris gave up four hits, two walks and hit a batter while striking out a pair. Tyler Saucedo (0-2, 5.68) was slapped around for seven runs in 3-1/3 innings, including a two-run homer, but only three were earned after two more Cardenas errors. Dusty Isaacs struck out one of the two men he faced to finish up the eighth.

*** 3 Stars!!! ***

He was better 10 years ago in the more intimate Massey Hall, but Gilmour was still shining on at the ACC a couple weeks ago.

Just confirming 92-93's assessment. Dave was a little hoarse, but the guitar chops are still top shelf.

The actual "crazy diamond" to which the song refers, Syd Barrett, is unfortunately not shining on as brightly as before.  He died in 2006.  But his memory lives on.

Nice to see a better outing from Harris, but he's feeling a little bit Deck-Mcguire-ish so far to me. Or possibly even a bit like Chad Jenkins, where no one ever mentioned their awesome stuff or exceptional skill. I'd rather a guy with an outstanding fastball and crap offspeed pitches. With Harris, it seems like everyone says "He's got 4 decent pitches", but none stand out.

I hope I"m wrong, but he sure isn't off to an overly impressive start. He was absolute hot stinking garbage last year in a league he should have done well in, and everyone was all prepared to completely write it off like it meant absolutely nothing. Sure, he was tired from a long year, but it's not like they dumped him in A+ or AA for his first taste. He's 0.1 years older than the average player in Lansing's league, so I want to see domination, not mediocrity.

Middle infielders of Buffalo are struggling in batting -- is it a chance for rehashing Kevin Nolan ? Jesus Montero is starting at 1B tonight; would a late inning pinch hitting for Quintero -- saving his body for more catching work and switch Montero to catch

Telmex now has 7 walks against 3 strikeouts. The combination of approach and power is exciting in this guy!

"Top prospect Anthony Alford hurt his right knee. The exact injury #BlueJays won't say. But he's trying to rehab it"

@ShiDavidi

That doesn't sound great.

Anyone know what's going on with Antonio Jiminez? He hasn't played at all since joining Buffalo. Injured again? He's not on the DL. Also wondering about Travis Bergen. He started on the Lansing roster and is now off and I don't think he pitched at all. Injured?

looks like Jimen3z is just not in the plans, though i can't fathom why they wouldn't give him time ahead of quintero.

Richard Urena is off to a great start, even though he's again a year young for his level. And he's doing it based on an uptick in contact rates, not with his usual power.

ugly1 uttering about Quintero playing more than expected over the expected preference to Jimen3z reminds myself my guess that I want to ask now. On higher minor league rosters -- Double A and Triple A, are veteran batters often performing well ahead of younger ones. As the season progresses, the veteran performances wane and young ones push ahead.

For Buffalo, how about a RF Browm, C/1B/DH Montero, 1B/DH Kotchman 2-3-4 batting order ? This 2,3,4 reminds me about Donaldson, Bats and EE. Slotting Montero at 1B when Quintero is the starting catcher. Would Quintero defense help Montero improve in his ? At least an available option of pinch hitting for Quintero in latter innings to save his body allows Montero to catch -- could Montero be still trained for some catching ?

Today's Bison lineup

Dalton Pompey CF
Andy Burns SS
Domonic Brown LF
Jesus Montero 1B
Casey Kotchman DH
Junior Lake RF
Matt Dominguez 3B
Tony Sanchez C
David Adams 2B

Is Burns getting on-base ability a focus of his performance ? From past discussion here, he did not draw much walks or strike out much. He starting as SS is a good choice. Adams is becoming a second lead-off hitter. IF Burns is good enough for batting second, then a Adams-Pompey-Burns-Brown-Montero-Kotchman from 9-1-2-3-4-5 lineup features hitters on the roster.
