Lansing were the only winners thanks to a big comeback. After Dayton scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning, Lansing scored seven in the bottom. Ryan Cook turned in an excellent start. The other three teams lost. Buffalo went to the thirteenth before losing, Drew Hutchison had a hot and cold start. New Hampshire lost a close game while Dunedin and Tom Robson were blown up in the first inning and that was the game.

Buffalo 2 Syracuse 3 - 13 innings

The Bisons were held to three hits through seven innings and trailed 1-0. In the eighth a couple of soft line drives from Jio Mier and Humberto Quintero got them started. David Adams singled in a run followed by a sac fly from Domonic Brown to put Buffalo ahead. However Ryan Tepera could not hold the lead, he surrendered a home run in the eighth. Drew Hutchison started without his command, he walked three hitters in the first as well as hitting a batter. He added another walk in the second but then settled down to retire nine straight before he was pulled in the fifth. Hutch threw 88 pitches, 53 were strikes.

With the game tied the game proceeded through inning after inning until the bottom of the thirteenth. Ben Rowen was on the mound and a double and a single late the game was over. Brown was the only Bison with two hits. Like the parent club there are a lot of averages starting with a one on the team. Dalton Pompey did not play.

New Hampshire 1 Hartford 3

Like Buffalo there are a lot of cold hitters on the Fisher Cats. On Wednesday they just had five hits. Their run came in the sixth, on Berti doubled and Dwight Smith singled him home. The Fisher Cats had a chance to get on the board in the second but KC Hobson was thrown out at home plate.

Jeremy Gabryszwski pitched six innings and was charged with two runs on six hits. Gabby didn't walk anyone. John Stilson pitched the seventh and Danny Barnes the eighth. Barnes was taken deep for the third run.

Dunedin 2 St Lucie 7

Tom Robson had a nightmare start, four walks, a couple of hits and a costly error by David Harris saw Robson out of the game in the first inning. Only two of his seven runs were earned because of the error but that doesn't absolve him of responsibility. Jose Fernandez pitched four shutout innings in relief.

The Jays had seven hits but never seriously threatened to get back in the game. In the second inning Ryan McBroom doubled and Danny Jansen singled him home. The second run came in the sixth, Richard Urena, McBroom and Harris singled. McBroom had the only multi hit night for the Jays.

Dayton 6 Lansing 11

Lansing scored three unearned runs in the third inning. Ryan Hissey and Andrew Guillotte set the table with a hit each. An error by the third baseman on a Lane Thomas grounder brought in two runs. Thomas scored when Gunnar Heidt singled. Ryan Cook was the starter for the Lugnuts and was outstanding. He went six innings and only had one base runner on a hit. Cook had five K's. Once Cook left the game, trouble was waiting. Dan Lietz got the first out but them homer, walk, double set the table then Justin Atkinson made an error to load the bases. The Lugnuts went to Josh DeGraaf but he threw gas on the fire. Six runs scored before Lansing got the last out at home plate.

Lansing hit back immediately. Hissey singled, JC Cardenas doubled and Guillotte also doubled, driving in two. Later in the inning Heidt and Juan Kelly had back to back triples. The last run came when Hissey had his second hit of the inning. Lansing answered Daytons six with seven of their own. Heidt drove in the eleventh run in the eighth. Hissey, Guillotte and Heidt each had three hits and lead the Lugnuts offense in the season to date numbers.

Lane Thomas is off to a nice start for Lansing.  He's hitting .385 with a 5/2 W/K in the early going.   He looked good to me when he was drafted.  I am hopeful that with his return to the outfield, the bat will come back to where I thought it might.

Anyone hear anything about Alford's injury? I see Clint Hollon tweeted this right after the injury:

"Prayers go up for my boy @ajalfor1"

That can't be good.

I heard - Alford was sliding into home, the throw was high - the catcher jumped for it and when he came down he landed cleats first on Alford's leg. I also heard that at the time it wasn't deemed too concerning.

This from Blue Jay Banter.
Anthony Alford picked up a leg injury in the Dunedin Blue Jays home opening win. From the story linked to here: "OF Jonathan Davis roped a smooth single to left field, and Alford was sent home from second base. The throw to the plate from OF Cord Sandberg sailed high, forcing Lino to jump. Alford's feet-first slide collided awkwardly with Lino's landing, pinning the top prospect's leg. He was ruled safe, tying the game at two. Alford was able to walk off under his own power, but left the game immediately.

You don't need to go elsewhere for that information, it was included in the minor league update here on Batters Box for that days game. Alford would be eligible to come off the DL today. This re-analysis of the issue came because someone re-tweeted Clinton Hollon's tweet expressing concern for Alford. I would have thought that if it was much more serious some of the beat writers would have had that information by now.

Perhaps, I would assume Clint Hollon is in Dunedin and serving his suspension time there, just seems like he would know more about Alford's injury due to that, hence his tweet. I guess we'll see today if he comes of the DL.

Lane Thomas homered and singled  in 4 trips yesterday.  He's about 6 months older than Jake Marisnick was when he went through Lansing.  Jake put up a .320/.392/.496 line with a 43/91 W/K, and we'll see if Thomas can do better than that.  He might.

Just listening to around the nest on right now, great way to catch up on the Jays farm system: link http://www.blogtalkradio.com/around-the-nest/2016/04/15/week-2-2016-scott-diamond-in-the-rough

I asked Spence Siegel (Voice of the Dunedin Jays) about Alford. He declined from saying specifically what Alford's injury was other than it's to the leg, but he did say Alford is going to get a second opinion on the injury.

Shi Davidi writes that Alford has a knee injury but, other than that, information on a return is vague.
