The Vancouver Canadians were looking to finish 2015 on a strong note by sweeping the playoff-bound Everett Aqua Sox at Nat Bailey Stadium.


Lefty Evan Smith got the start and spun two scoreless frames of two-hit ball with one strikeout.

Michael Kraft walked a batter but struck out another in his 1-1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Gabriel Cenas enjoys his trip around the bases after getting a hold of one for a three-run homer in the ninth.

Andrew Case hugs catcher Kevin Garcia as the C's completed a three-game sweep of Everett with a resounding 11-0 victory. Sean Hurley (#15) and Ryan Hissey (#9) get ready to join the celebration. Case needed just two pitches to record the final two outs.

Vancouver finished the second-half of the season with a record of 18-20, leaving them two games behind Everett and Tri-City in the Northwest League North Division. Overall, the C's finished the year at 34-42, leaving them out of the postseason dance for the first time since 2009.

The Canadians will begin 2016 on the road June 17 in Spokane but will be back home June 20 against Everett.

That's an interesting picture of Gabriel Cenas rounding the bases - a big smile after a dinger!

Little Gabriel was 21 in 15 (turned 22 in October). I say little because he was 6' 1 " and (if I remember correctly) 155 pounds when he signed for a reasonably high amount as a Dominican Bonus guy a few years ago. After several years of North American junk food he's up to 6'1" 155 pounds. Clearly, the guy can resist gourmet cuisine better than I can!

I remember thinking that when he grew up (and out) he might be a keeper - he was highly regarded back in the day. I wonder if he might just find something somewhere and become something...you never know...stranger things have happened...
