The Lansing Lugnuts will take a 1-0 series lead back to Lansing after hanging on to beat the West Michigan Whitecaps on the road Saturday afternoon.

Comstock Park, MI - The Lugnuts are a win away from advancing to the Midwest League final after beating the Tigers affiliate. They jumped on the Whitecaps for two first-inning runs which came on a Ryan McBroom double to score a Chris Carlson leadoff single and a D.J. Davis base hit to bring in McBroom. Carlson singled home the third run in the fifth inning by cashing in a Gunnar Heidt double. Lansing added two more in the sixth on an RBI single by Justin Atkinson to score a Davis walk and a Danny Jansen fielder's choice to plate a David Harris single. Carlson, McBroom and Davis contributed two hits apiece in the Lugnuts' nine-hit attack with Davis walking twice. Richard Urena and Jason Leblebijian were both 0-for-5.
Tom Robson (1-0, 1.50) allowed seven baserunners to reach over six solid innings, giving up just a solo home run among four hits, a walk and two hit by pitches. He struck out two and kept everyone with a glove busy on six groundouts and seven flyouts. Carlos Ramirez took over in the seventh but was roughed up for two runs on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning before Tim Mayza got the final out of the frame, stranding a runner in the process. Mayza gave up a solo homer in the ninth but got the final seven outs, two by strikeout, to get the save.
