Moosic, PA - A quality start by Chad Jenkins (8-6, 2.98) was not enough to subdue the Yankees affiliate. He was nicked for single runs in the fourth and fifth and allowed just a baserunner an inning on three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. He struck out two and produced nine outs on the ground over six innings. Chad Girodo worked a perfect seventh with a strikeout and Steve Delabar had a shutout eighth despite a pair of walks, one on purpsoe.
Alex Hassan and Danny Dorn had the only hits for Buffalo. Andy Burns, Jon Berti and Ryan Schimpf drew walks with Schimpf's coming as a pinch-hitter. Ty Kelly, Melky Mesa and Matt Hague did nothing in their 12 collective at-bats.
Trenton 3 New Hampshire 1
Trenton, NJ - The Fisher Cats had to steal their only run as they could only get two hits against the Yankees affiliate. Roemon Fields reached on an error to start the game, made it to second on a Jorge Flores bunt single, advanced to third on a Dwight Smith Jr. fielder's choice before stealing home on a called strikeout by K.C. Hobson. Smith had the other hit while Fields and Jack Murphy drew bases on balls. Fields had two stolen bases on the night. Hobson, Kevin Nolan, Shane Opitz, Emilio Guerrero and Matt Newman were all 0-for-3.
Casey Lawrence (12-13, 4.52) was lambasted for 16 hits and a walk over seven innings but only gave up three runs. He struck out three and recorded 9 of his 11 outs in play on the ground. Chris Smith slammed the door shut in the eighth by striking out the side.
Dunedin 7 Clearwater 6 (13 Innings)
Clearwater, FL - The Jays rallied from a 4-0 hole to beat the Phillies affiliate. Boomer Collins got the Jays on the comeback trail with a leadoff home run in the fifth. Collins capped off a three-run rally in the sixth with an RBI double after doubles by Anthony Alford, L.B. Dantzler and Andy Fermin plated the first two runs. Matt Dean gave Dunedin its first lead with his 14th homer of the season. Dunedin took another one-run lead in the 11th when Mike Reeves worked a bases-loaded walk. A passed ball in the 13th led to Alford scoring the winning run after getting on base with a single. Collins had a three-hit night and Alford had two. Dantzler and Derrick Loveless had a hit and two walks apiece. Dean and Fermin had a walk to reach base twice. Dickie Joe Thon and Christian Vazquez also made a dent in the hit column.
Derek Blacksher met the quality start guidelines with three earned runs out of four that he gave up over six innings. He served up a two-run home run among his six hits and one walk. He only rung up one batter but 11 of his 15 outs in play never left the diamond. Matt Dermody put up a zero in the seventh with one hit and two strikeouts. Lendy Castillo had a punchout in a shutout eighth but Arik Sikula was victimized by an unearned run on a hit and a walk in the ninth. Nate Abel (1-0) was a winner in his Dunedin debut, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over three innings. Griffin Murphy got around a hit for a scoreless 13th to get his first save.
Lansing 4 Great Lakes 1
Lansing, MI - Midwest League MVP Ryan McBroom lowered the boom with a three-run blast in the sixth to beat the Dodgers affiliate. His 12th dinger scored a Chris Carlson walk and a Jason Leblebijian single. D.J. Davis tied the game in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. McBroom had the only two hit game and Carlson also reached twice with bases on balls. Davis and Richard Urena had the other hits. David Harris, Josh Almonte, Danny Jansen and Alex Maldonado came up with nothing in their three at-bats at the bottom of the order.
Justin Shafer (7-4, 2.96) made his last start of 2015 a good one, surrendering just one run on two hits, two walks and a plunk over six innings. He struck out two and kept his infielders and outfielders busy with eight and six outs respectively. Dusty Isaacs navigated his way around a hit and two walks with three punchouts for a three-inning save, his second of the year.
Vancouver 12 Everett 5
Vancouver, BC - The C's used four multi-run innings in the first four frames and five overall to crush the Mariners affiliate. They were down 3-0 in the top of the first but bounced back with three runs in the bottom half on a Connor Panas RBI groundout, a wild pitch and a Juan Kelly single. Vancouver took the lead in the second when a deep fly ball to left field glanced off the glove of Everett's Corey Simpson and went over the short left field wall, giving Andrew Guillotte a two-run home run. Guillotte gave the C's the lead for good in the third when his bases-loaded walk snapped a 5-5 tie. Ryan Metzler would end off the frame with a two-run single. Carl Wise also had a two-run knock in the fourth and Panas added two more with a base hit in the seventh. Metzler had four hits and Kelly had three. Guillotte and Wise had a pair of hits with Guillotte getting a free pass and Wise taking one for the team. Panas, Sean Hurley and Ryan Hissey had a knock and a walk. Kevin Garcia had a base hit and J.C. Cardenas earned two bases on balls.
Francisco Rios (3-6, 4.27) was roughed up for five runs but made it through five innings for the victory. One of the runs was unearned as he allowed eight hits and three walks but he rung up seven batters and all six outs in play were on the ground. Stuart Holmes contributed two scoreless frames of two-hit relief, striking out three. Turner Lee had a one-hit eighth with one K while Bob Wheatley had a one-hit, one-plunk ninth and two whiffs to wrap things up.
