The affliates had a winning Tuesday by taking five out of eight. They wound up on the right side of .500 with a pair of dominant starting performances and a doubleheader sweep. Plus, four Vancouver Canadians were in Spokane for the Northwest League/Pioneer League All-Star Game and experienced varying degrees of success.
Buffalo 7 Charlotte 3
Charlotte, NC - The Bisons were on the verge of punting this one away to the White Sox affiliate, leading 3-0 at one point, but they recovered with two-run innings in the eighth and ninth to get back in the win column. Matt Hague's RBI single put the Herd ahead for good in the eighth and he came around to score on a Luke Scott base hit. A Sean Ochinko groundout and a wild pitch provided more insurance runs in the ninth. Jon Berti drove in the first three runs with a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning before being thrown out at third. Hague and Berti had two-hit, one-walk performances while Luke Scott and Roemon Fields - in his Bisons debut - getting one of each. Dalton Pompey and Ty Kelly both walked twice with Pompey stealing a base. Alex Hassan had a base hit but Ochinko and Jonathan Diaz were a combined 0-for-8 at the bottom of the order.
Scott Copeland had to battle his way to get through five innings, surrendering five hits and three walks but giving up just one run, a Dayan Viciedo dinger. He struck out four to go along with six groundouts. Steve Delabar (3-0) got the win despite blowing the save by serving up a two-run homer to Matt Davidson among his two hits but struck out three in his two innings. Ryan Tepera issued just one walk over 1-2/3 scoreless frames with two strikeouts to get his first save.
Richmond 3 New Hampshire 0
Richmond, VA - All the runs in this game came in the bottom of the sixth and that was bad news for the visiting Fisher Cats. Scott Barnes (2-2, 3.92) sat down the first 12 hitters he faced and got through five innings without a run. He couldn't get any of the three hitters he faced in the sixth and they all came around to score. Barnes permitted just five hits with no walks, two strikeouts and seven groundball outs against the Giants affiliate. Dustin Antolin could not strand the two runners he inherited from Barnes, allowing two hits but striking out one in his inning of work. Luis Perez matched the two hits on his pitching line with two K's over two shutout frames.
Jorge Flores had two hits and a walk at the top of the order while Martin Medina matched Flores in the hit department. Emilio Guerrero singled and walked, Kevin Nolan picked up a hit and Jack Murphy drew a walk. Dwight Smith Jr., Ryan Schimpf and K.C. Hobson were hitless in four at-bats with Smith striking out twice. Christian Lopes was 0-for-3.
Daytona 6 Dunedin 4
Daytona Beach, FL - The Reds affiliate snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with three runs in their final at-bat. Arik Sikula (0-1) was left feeling sick as he was victimized for all three runs in the eighth. He allowed a leadoff single before throwing away a bunted ball that led to all three runs being unearned. A bases-clearing double was the final blow. Jeremy Gabryszwski was one out short of a five inning outing, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out five but only recorded two of his eight outs in play on the ground. Brady Dragmire rescued Gabryszwski by stranding three runners on base but he was victimized by an unearned run on a booted ball by Dickie Joe Thon at second base. Dragmire yielded one hit but struck out one in 2-1/3 innings.
Despite his error, Thon had a good night at the dish with a run-scoring double in the second inning to open up the scoring before hitting his first home run of the season to make it 2-0 Dunedin. An error in the sixth and a Richard Urena RBI single gave Dunedin two one-run leads in the sixth and seventh that they could not hold on to. Thon, Urena and L.B. Dantzler all had two hits with Dantzler doubling twice. Jorge Saez walked three times and Matt Dean walked twice. Anthony Alford and D.J. Davis also reached with a base on balls. Mitch Nay was 0-for-5, Derrick Loveless was 0-for-3 and Rowdy Tellez came up empty twice.

Lansing, MI - The Lugnuts made of the most their six hits while the Brewers affiliate did not. D.J. Davis broke the goose egg with a two-run double in the fourth inning. The Lugnuts scored again when Michael De La Cruz doubled and scored on an error. De La Cruz had a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Chris Carlson capped things off with a leadoff home run in the eighth. The other hits belonged to Jason Leblebijian, Ryan McBroom and Dawel Lugo with Leblebijian and McBroom also earning walks. David Harris drew a base on balls but Josh Almonte and Alex Maldonado were 0-for-3.
Chase Mallard (5-3, 4.96) charmed the Timber Rattlers with seven shutout innings of four-hit ball, striking out nine for a Game Score of 78. He split his 10 outs in play evenly between the infield and outfield and retired nine in a row at one point. Dusty Isaacs swept up the final two frames by tossing a two-hitter with two K's.

Bluefield, WV - The Blue Jays were able to walk this one off against the Astros as Francisco Rodriguez drove in pinch-runner Dave Pepe from second base with a two-out base hit. Pepe replaced Jacob Anderson after a one-out single and got into scoring position on an Aaron Attaway base rap. Bluefield got on the board first when Yeltsin Gudino singled and scored on a Deiferson Barreto home run, one of his three hits on the night that left him a triple shy of the cycle. Rodrigo Orozco had a hit while Gabriel Clark and Nick Sinay drew bases on balls. Juan Tejada was 0-for-4 and Matt Morgan was 0-for-3.
Angel Perdomo allowed just one run on two hits over five innings but struck out eight with zero walks allowed. Only two of his eight outs in play were recorded on the ground but he still put up a Game Score of 67. Tyler Burden proved he was up to the challenge with three scoreless innings of one-hit with two strikeouts and four groundouts. Alberto Guzman (2-3) blew the save by giving up a run on a hit and two walks but he whiffed one in the ninth to get the 'W'.

Nash Knight would later single home a Lance Jones base hit to give the Jays a 2-0 advantage after one. The inning could have been a bigger one but Kalik May was picked off after drawing a walk. The Jays final run came on a leadoff homer by Juandy Mendoza in the second. Owen Spiwak had a two-hit day and Andrew Florides had the other knock. Levi Scott drew a walk but Edward Olivares was 0-for-3.
Griffin Murphy got the start and struck out two in his lone inning of work. Denis Diaz (3-0) was dinged for a solo homer and another run over 3-1/3 innings on two hits and three walks. He whiffed a pair and got six groundball outs. Mike Estevez allowed one of Diaz's two runners to score but struck out five and finished up the game with 2-2/3 scoreless frames of one-hit, one-walk ball to collect his fifth save.

Tampa, FL - The Jays rallied from three runs down before winning it in extras for the doubleheader sweep. Lance Jones drew a pinch-hit, bases-loaded walk to score the first run before Kalik May followed up with a game-tying two run single in the seventh. Juandy Mendoza would break the tie in the eighth with a run-scoring single and Nash Knight would drive in an insurance run with a base hit. Mendoza tried to give Knight another RBI but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Mendoza did steal second prior to being thrown out at the dish. Javier Hernandez had the lone two-hit game but May was on base three times with a single, a walk and hit by pitch. Levi Scott got aboard twice with a hit and a walk. It was Scott's leadoff walk in the seventh that jump-started the rally. Jake Thomas and Bryan Lizardo also had singles. Cliff Brantley was 0-for-3 while Miguel Almonte and Robert Lucido were 0-for-2. Reggie Pruitt and Owen Spiwak had unsuccessful pinch-hit at-bats.
Osman Gutierrez tossed five innings of one-run ball on three hits and two walks. The Os-Man struck out five and all eight of his outs in play were on the ground to give him a Game Score of 60. Jose Nova only got one out and was jolted for two runs on two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. Kevin Vicuna started the game with a leadoff single and the D-Backs D did the rest with two errors at short and a wild pitch to score Vicuna. Francisco Rodriguez would single home another in the first. A Yorman Rodriguez sac fly gave the Jays their final lead in the third. Sterling Guzman had one-third of the Jays' hits with three. Andres Guerra had a pair while Norberto Obeso and Antonio Concepion had the others. Enmanuel Moreta, Antony Fuentes and Sam Buelens were part of the unfortunate trio named 0-for-4. Francisco Rodriguez had the only stolen base. Anderson Green made an appearance at third base but did not get to go to bat.
Joel Espinal (1-1, 1.77) was snakebitten for four runs over 4-2/3 innings on five hits, two walks and a plunk. One run was unearned on a Guerra throwing error behind the plate but Espinal didn't help his cause by uncorking four wild pithces. The 18 year-old righty struck out five and induced four outs on the grass. Jonathan Torres stranded a runner for Espinal but also wound up with an unearned marker on his ledger after a clank by Vicuna at short. Torres pitched three innings of one-hit ball with two walks and three whiffs. Jose Acosta stranded a Torres runner by striking out the only batter he faced.
Northwest League 6 Pioneer League 5 (10 Innings)
Andrew Case represented the Vancouver Canadians with a scoreless inning in the Northwest League/Pioneer League All-Star Game in Spokane Tuesday night.
Spokane, WA - All four Vancouver Canadians saw action in this one. Lefty Brandon Hinkle surrendered a home run and walked a batter but struck out two in the sixth in his lone inning of work. Andrew Case followed Hinkle and walked the first batter he faced but induced a ground ball double play before getting a called strikeout to end the seventh.
Sean Hurley drew a walk in his three plate appearances on Tuesday.
Sean Hurley lined out to left field but Justin Atkinson got an infield hit to short in the sixth inning in his first at-bat. Hurley was at the plate again in the seventh when a wild pitch with the bases loaded scored to take Hinkle off the hook for the loss. Hurley worked the count full before drawing a walk. Hurley struck out in the ninth but Atkinson doubled to lead off the tenth. He was thrown out trying to advance to third on a ground ball to the left side of the infield but his fellow NWL All-Stars bailed him out by getting the winning run. Had the game remain tied, the Pioneer League would have been awarded the win because they won the Home Run Derby before the game. Hurley took part and belted seven home run but did not advance to the final.
Justin Atkinson had a double and an infield hit in his three trips to the plate.
