The 24 year-old Dominican righty walked just one while striking out three for a Game Score of 73. Of his 14 outs in play, six of them were on the ground. Lefty Alonzo Gonzalez worked his way around a hit and two walks by striking out four over two shutout frames for save number one.
Jorge Saez drove in the only run Dunedin would need in the third against the Marlins affiliate with a single to score a Christian Lopes double. They added two big insurance runs in the eighth on RBI singles by Anthony Alford and Rowdy Tellez. Alford had the lone two-hit game and Saez drew a walk to get on base twice. Dayton, OH - It was a mixed bag of a start for Justin Shafer (4-1, 1.98). The Reds affiliate got to the former Florida Gator for a pair of runs in each of the first two innings but he lasted 6-2/3 innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits and a walk. He struck out seven and induced eight ground ball outs. Lefthander Tim Mayza graced his way through 1-1/3 shutout innings, holding the Dragons down to one hit and striking out a pair. Mayza's second K of the night led to the ejection of Dayton DH Garrett Boulware by the home plate umpire.
The Lugnuts offence finally got rolling in the sixth on an RBI base hit from Dawel Lugo. They drew closer in the eighth on a Ryan McBroom sacrifice fly to score a Jason Leblebijian triple and a run-scoring double by Boomer Collins. David Harris worked a walk with one out in the ninth but was thrown out trying to steal. Leblebijian was then rung up on strikes to end the game. McBroom had a 3-for-3 night with a double. Harris, Lugo and Collins all had a hit and a base on balls apiece. Mike Reeves had a hit and Austin Davis had a walk and an assist from left field for throwing out a runner at third base. D.J. Clinton Hollon could not stop the bleeding for Vancouver as he surrendered three runs over 4-2/3 innings Monday night.
Vancouver, BC - The C's losing streak is up to nine as the Giants affiliate completed a five-game sweep at The Nat. Clinton Hollon (1-2, 3.94) was one out short of a five-inning outing, yielding three runs on seven hits, a walk and a hit by pitch while registering three strikeouts. He allowed a leadoff single in the first and balked the runner to second after losing his balance on the mound. A fly ball advanced the runner to third before Hollon uncorked a wild pitch for the Volcanoes' first run. A triple and single produced another Salem-Keizer run in the third and a hit by pitch and double in the fifth chased Hollon from the game. Michael Kraft ended the fifth and set down the side in order in the sixth but ran into trouble in the seventh. He got two outs but was charged with three runs allowed on two hits with a pair of K's. One of the runs was unearned after a J.C. Cardenas error at short extended the inning against Sean Ratcliffe, who also had an unearned run on one hit while striking out one in one-third of an inning. Turner Lee struck out two over two shutout frames.
