Pompey better be looking over his shoulder. I think we have a new top prospect CF coming up through the ranks.

Could you imagine an OF of Pillar, Pompey and Alford? Anything in the air would be the glove.

Pompey is hitting a cool .360/.415/.640 since he was sent down to AA.

About minor league batting lineup,

can some kinds of Lineup Analysis help putting the best lineup each game as more batters are available than in the MLB by activating players from DL and signing players to economical minor league contracts. In other words, experimenting different lineup costs less.

Running Basebal Musings Analysis on the Bison's Tuesday lineup, the following two lineups generate most runs based on different models:

3.552 runs
Hague Burns Diaz Mesa Gindl Barton Thole Tolleson Santiago

3.474 runs
Diaz Hague Gindl Burns Mesa Thole Santiago Barton Tolleson

Interesting is Diaz batting third and generating more runs. However, as players performances in terms of numbers and stats, especially those with few PAs, increase or decrease greatly, the lineup needs to be change each game. Would an kind of equilibrium be reached so that some mainstay batters stays in a particular slot (batting 3rd, cleanup, leadoff etc.) as their numbers do not fluctuate much ? Other players' numbers do fluctuate much as these players are moved out or into the batting order.

I'm hoping that Alford's bat ends up as a great corner bat, not just a CF bat like pompey.

nice to see pompey keep hitting, and with the hot hand i'm not too concerned about his low 6.1bb% down there....but i'd loke to see him cut down that 17.1k% a bit before moving back up.

Read something of interest on K McD's FG Prospect chat.

Question pointed out Urena's surprising power this year and asked about any updates on him.

Here's Kiley's answer:

"Talked to a scout a few weeks back that was bullish on him and Dawel Lugo relative to where I had them pre-season. They may both get a bump when I make more calls. Like Lugo in my 2-game look on him in FL."

No surprise about Urena, but the Lugo comment was a bit of a shock, since the reports diverge so greatly from his stats. Good to hear.

scouts have always loved lugo. hope the stats catch up eventually.

i've been a bit surprised that the prospect guys have been slow to pick up on urena, though. the names some listed ahead of him, even within our org, made me shake my head a bit.

I have to admit that I have been surprised with how poorly Lugo has done. In Vancouver he showed good power for a middle infielder and when he hit the ball he made consistent hard contact. He won't walk much as he has Catallenatisis (the ability to make contact with any pitch even if he shouldn't swing at it) but I thought he would hit. He's had enough AB's to show more so he's a real long shot now.

One of the reasons why I joined batter's box is because I find the progress of young players very interesting and there is lots of knowledge here.

The last two years have been so interesting. Last year, it was about the rise of Norris and Pompey. They were good, but nobody saw them as top prospects till last year.

This year it is Boyd and Alford. (of course the big names like Hoffman).

I enjoy it because, we had many years of prospects coming and dropping off.

I see a lot of young players contributing this year in Toronto. The Jays might not win this year, but they are exciting. As a fan, that is all I ask for. (A world series would be nice too :) )

Checking up on what B Lawrie is doing. He is healthy and playing 3B for the Oakland. I think he is having a good year so far.

In Toronto he got injured too much due to his playing style. Most Bauxites expected and predicted injuries.

In Oakland the foul territory is huge. Maybe, just maybe that is the crucial factor in him staying uninjured. I mean that he is not crashing into various fixtures.

With Arb & FA being considered and Oakland maybe having a 3B prospect he may become available. He may be cheap to acquire or not, depending on ...
If we got him cheap, we could put him in CF or 2B so that walls & fixtures are further away or padded. And hope he does not run into team mates.

McDaniels was the outlier on Urena (had him #20).
Sickels, Law, and BA all had him at #8 and he MLB list had him at 10.  Marc Hulet had him at #7

BA had Lugo at 15, Sickels had him 17 and MLB 18 while Kiley had him at 20.

The blogger consensus I did had Urena at #9 and Lugo at #17 - DaBox list had then 13 and 17 respectively.
