Just one win out of six for the affiliates on Tuesday night. However, the Lansing Lugnuts made an impact on this year's Midwest League All-Star Game. Dunedin's game was rained out.
Lehigh Valley 5 Buffalo 4
Buffalo, NY - The Phillies affiliate pulled out this back-and-forth affair as Jordan Danks took Bobby Korecky (2-4) deep for a two-run home run in the ninth. Randy Wolf started this one for the Herd and put together 7-2/3 innings of three run ball on six hits and three walks. Wolf gave up a home run to Russ Canzler but his strikeout total was seven and his groundout total was six. Gregory Infante stranded a couple of runners for Wolf in getting the final out of the eighth. Korecky was knocked around for three hits in the fateful ninth.
Alex Hassan drove in all four runs for Buffalo. He got the Bisons on the board with a single to score a Daric Barton double in the second and lifted a sacrifice fly to plate an Andy Burns walk in the fourth. Hassan then gave the Herd a brief 4-3 lead with a two-RBI double in the eighth. Hassan, Barton and Ramon Santiago all had two-hit nights with Santiago earning a walk. Burns and Devon Travis both put up a '2' in the BB column. The other hits belonged to Matt Hague and Jonathan Diaz. Josh Thole was 0-for-4 and Luke Scott was hitless in three at-bats. Brad Glenn and Caleb Gindl came up empty as pinch-hitters.
Portland 7 New Hampshire 2
Manchester, NH - The Red Sox affiliate gave Taylor Cole (2-7, 5.15) his lumps in the form of three home runs which led to four of the seven runs he surrendered over 5-2/3 innings. A Jorge Flores error at short led to one run being unearned. Cole gave up six hits and four walks but struck out seven. Luis Perez could not strand Cole's two runners but did not give up any runs of his own in 2-2/3 innings. He allowed two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch but struck out three. Greg Burke plunked one but struck out two in a shutout ninth.
The Cats got their only runs in the fourth on a Kevin Nolan double and a Jack Murphy single. Nolan had two hits while Shane Opitz and K.C. Hobson had the other knocks while adding a walk apiece. Ian Parmley walked twice and Dwight Smith Jr. walked once. Flores took one for the team. Jon Berti was 0-for-5 and Matt Newman was 0-for-4.
Vancouver 4 Tri-City 2
Pasco, WA - The Canadians are back at the .500 mark after defeating the Padres affiliate in this series opener. The two teams traded runs in the second and fifth innings before Vancouver grabbed the lead in the seventh. Sean Hurley opened the scoring with a home run and Alexis Maldonado drove in the next three runs with three singles. He drove in Earl Burl III twice, who singled and stole second base in the fifth before doubling in the ninth. Maldonado also plated Ryan Metzler with the tie-breaking run in the seventh after Metzler walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Maldonado also had a triple and a stolen base as part of a 4-for-5 night. Burl and Hurley had two hits apiece with Burl swiping a bag. Juan Kelly and Austin Davis also singled with Davis walking and adding a stolen base. Gabriel Cenas and Kevin Garcia each earned a base on balls. Rolando Segovia was 0-for-1 after pinch-running for Cenas. J.C. Cardenas whiffed three times as part of a 0-for-5 evening.
Clinton Hollon made it through five innings and yielded a couple of runs on four hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. He struck out five with a flyout/groundout total of 3-2. Travis Bergen (1-0) was dominant in relief to say the least as he walked just one batter while striking out eight, including the last six in a row, over three shutout frames. The only out in play was on the ground. Joey Aquino walked a batter but struck one out in the ninth to pick up the save.

Bluefield, WV - The Twins spoiled the Jays home opener with four multi-run innings. Nick Wells (0-1, 7.20) had trouble keeping the ball in the yard as he was whacked for three home runs, resulting in four runs over five innings. He allowed six hits in total to go with four strikeouts, zero walks and six ground outs. Miguel Burgos was burned for three more runs on two hits, three walks and a hit by pitch and got his only out via the strikeout. Zak Wasilewski stranded the bases loaded but was zapped for a pair of runs on three hits, three walks and a plunk whiffing one over 2-2/3 innings. Stuart Holmes put together a perfect ninth.

Just before Barreto's hit, Rodrigo Orozco led off the game with a single but was thrown out at home on Gudino's two-bagger. Matt Morgan belted Bluefield's first homer with a solo shot in the fourth. A two-run double by D.J. McKnight and a one-run double by Andrew Guillotte brought in the final runs in the seventh, an inning that was extended after Carl Wise reached base with two outs on a strikeout. Barreto had three hits - including a double - while Morgan, Guillotte and Freddy Rodriguez contributed two apiece. Gudino and Christian Williams reached twice with a hit and a walk. Wise was 0-for-5.
GCL Blue Jays 3 GCL Pirates 3 (Suspended - 2 outs, Bottom 7th)
Bradenton, FL - The Jays were able to fight back from a 3-0 deficit before the rains came. Owen Spiwak singled home a Nash Knight double before scoring on a Juandy Mendoza ground out in the fourth inning. Edward Olivares doubled home a leadoff walk from Kalik May to tie things up at 3-3 in the seventh. May had two hits and a walk while Olivares and Connor Panas reached twice with a hit and a hit by pitch. Mendoza also took one for the team. Jake Thomas had the other hit. Levi Scott was 0-for-4 and Andrew Florides was 0-for-3.
Osman Gutierrez gave up all three runs over three innings but only one was uneared after a Knight error at third base. John Kravetz was not scored upon over three frames, working around three hits while striking out one. Gunnar Eastman struck out a pair but gave up a double when the game was called. This game will resume July 8.
DSL Reds 3 DSL Blue Jays 1
San Pedro de Macoris, DR - The Reds scored two first-inning runs against Jose Nova (0-4) to get the victory. He was an out short of a quality start, pitching 5-2/3 innings of three-run ball on three hits and two walks. One of the runs was unearned due to a Manuel Herazo passed ball. Nova uncorked three wild pitches but struck out six and all ten outs in play stayed on the grass. Tommy Henriquez stranded a runner for Nova and held the Reds in check for 3-1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and plunking a hitter while striking out a pair.
A Norberto Obeso sacrifice fly in the fourth was all the Jays could muster. Yorman Rodriguez had a 2-for-4 day at the dish. Obeso and Sterling Guzman singled and walked while Kevin Vicuna singled and scored. Enmanuel Moreta and Antony Fuentes also had base knocks. Herazo and Jesus Navarro were a combined 0-for-8 and Sam Buelens was 0-for-3.
Mid East All-Stars 5 Mid West All-Stars 0 (Midwest League All-Star Game)
Peoria, IL - A pair of Lansing Lugnuts produced the winning run in the first inning with Anthony Alford getting a leadoff walk before stealing second and scampering home on a Ryan McBroom single. Rowdy Tellez endured a 0-for-5 night but he reached base on an error and scored the second run of the game in the fourth. Richard Urena singled and scored as part of a three-run uprising in the ninth. McBroom was on base twice as he was able to pick up a base on balls. Shane Dawson pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning, using just five pitches to retire the two hitters he faced to start the seventh.
