Hillsboro 13 Vancouver 3

Boomer Collins - shown here during a June 20 contest against Spokane - drove in all three runs to prevent the C's from getting shutout Monday night.

Vancouver, BC - The C's second-half of the season got off to a rough start. They actually led this one 2-0 on a Boomer Collins two-run single in the second. When they scored again in the fourth on a Collins RBI double, they were down 6-3 in the fourth. Collins and Ryan McBroom had two hits in this one. Max Pentecost had a single in four trips to the plate but Franklin Barreto was 0-for-4.

Wasilewski got through five innings in which the Diamondbacks affiliate got six hits and two walks along with a hit by pitch. He struck out a pair and 10 of his 11 outs in play were on the grass. Kamakani Usui was upended for four runs in one inning but two were unearned on a Barreto error at short after a double steal of home and second was pulled off by the Hops. Mark Biggs was mauled for three more runs in two innings before Jose Fernandez calmed things down with a shutout ninth. The C's made six errors - two each by Maldonado and Barreto.

They scored first when a Miguel Almonte ground out cashed in a three-base error in the first. The offence did not respond again until the eighth when Enmanuel Moreta doubled home a pair of runs. Moreta would score on a Ronniel Demorizi single to cut the Halos lead to 5-4. Leudy Garcia drove one home in the ninth with a single but the Jays could not do anything with runners at first and third with nobody out. Edward Olivares had a triple and two walks. I missed what Jorge Soler has done since his injury.  At age 22, he had 7 games in Rookie League and then was sent up to double A where he slashed .415/.494/.862 in 65 at-bats and today was promoted to triple A.  I am trying to think of the last time when two hitting prospects of the quality of Bryant and Soler were in triple A for the same organization at the same time, but I am struggling to recall.

They haven't produced as expected in the Majors, but I recall that Mike Moustakas & Eric Hosmer were pretty hot stuff & briefly together @ AAA in 2011

Kyle Drabek had a nice outing in relief for the Herd last night.  He seems to be getting better as time goes, and might be a useful addition to the big club if further relief support is required.
