This year Da Box lost Mick Doherty, a long time bauxite. In addition to his Hall of Names threads Mick was known for his Christmas Day post. Here I am reproducing Mick's last Christmas thread from 2011.

We ask this every year as Christmas comes (and if I read my watch right, in Toronto this year, that's in about 20 minutes!) so ...

What'djaget???



That's right, we want to know ... was Baseball Santa good to you this year? You can brag on other non-great-game-related givts, too, but we are most interested in the cards, tickets, regalia and memorabilia (or whatever else) you received that would make Bill James smile and little Robbie Neyer insanely jealous. This is also a place to, if you really want to, post your Christmas holiday wishes to others on this site (don't worry, the annual New year's resolutions thread comes next week -- no need to commit early!) .....

My wife was kind enough to pre-order Up, Up, and Away for Christmas. Can't wait for Jonah Keri to walk me down memory lane with the Kid, the Hawk, Rock and many others.

I am still enjoying the chintzy Tim Lincecum garden gnome obtained at a Giants' game this summer.  Timmy presides over my basement cave.

Got a splendid Cliff Lee Phillies road jersey from the lady (let's call her "Mrs. Eephus") which we had both seen at a jaw-dropping bargain price just a few days earlier. Cliff is one of my very favourite pitchers to watch and the stitching and numbering of the jersey is top notch and authentic.

Now, if AA can somehow swing a deal for the lefty I can wear it to a few games this summer...

I got my usual baseball stuff - My BA subscription renewed, my BA Almanac and BA Prospect Handbook. I've been subscribing to BA's Magazine and Almanac since 1987 and the Prospect's book since it started in 2001.

I also miss Mick...

My son once again gave me the cards for the next season of Strat-O-Matic. This will be my 40th year in a local league and I'm glad he understands the value of year-round baseball. I find that Strat-O helps me appreciate the variety of MLB players and their strengths and weaknesses as well.
