Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, rolling into the night...

Aces up: it's Esmil Rogers and David Price. I'm not even sure what's at stake anymore. It's a perfect night to start a second-half rampage, I guess.

Guaranteed win tonight. Waterloo Sunset has never let me down.

It doesn't look good, but I can handle losing to David Price.

As long as it's not Lurch Hendrickson or Ginger McClung beating the Jays, I can handle it.

Do you mean Hellickson and Archer?
Parker - Friday, July 19 2013 @ 07:05 PM EDT (#276717) #
Nah, I said what I meant.  Mark Hendrickson and Seth McClung used to be terrible pitchers for the Rays back in the days when you could count on the team to lose 100 games each season.  They always brang it against Toronto somehow though.  Now that the Rays are awesome, it doesn't hurt as much when they clobber the Jays.

The Jays had better make that run count. They probably aren't going to get too many more - if the Price is right, that is.

Fan overreaction here: it is so frustrating to follow the Jays this season for a number of reasons, not least of which has got to be their player personnel moves.  I can't believe I'm saying this, but I honestly think there's something to Greg Zaun's comments about Alex Anthopoulos and his running of the team like it's a video game or fantasy baseball.  Brett Lawrie at second base is just a disaster.  The man is an incredible athlete who plays an unbelievable third base in large part because the position is 90% athleticism.  Second base is the complete opposite, requiring technique and guile, and quite simply baseball instinct.  I don't think these are Lawrie's strongest attributes and I think you limit his athleticism by playing him at that position.  The slow roller just now he completely misplays, bobbles and now the Jays are in trouble.

Ah, you meant Big Red McClung.  2 wins 4 losses against Toronto.

Is David Price a FA in the off season? If so...is he a possibility?
greenfrog - Friday, July 19 2013 @ 07:49 PM EDT (#276723) #
He's under control for 2014, I think. The question is whether the Rays move him a la James Shields before he hits free agency.

While I'm all for using platoon splits aggressively, and while he did earn the first BB off of Price since Price came back from injury....it's still a tad depressing to come into a stretch of games that everyone around the team is saying is so crucial....and seeing Mark DeRosa as your cleanup hitter.

Better than seeing Lind.

Three splitters because JP can't block the slider=run scoring double.

The Rays are an impressive team (emphasis on team). The Jays...not so much.

This team lives and dies by the HR, but choking up a 4-1 lead is unacceptable. Is Rogers losing his effectiveness or more likely, are they figuring him out. That's bad news for any hope of recovery. Now it's Buehrle's turn.

Anthony Gose's problem is totally mental. He couldn't handle being sent down. So with Moises Sierra losing value as well, only Kevin Pillar has tradeable value. Ricky Romero may have regained some value with recent successes. It's more likely Sean Nolin, Marcus Stroman and Alex Sanchez are the most valued tradeable Pitching assets. Other than on the Major League Team, I can't see enough Value for trades.

The sooner A.A. acquires Top controllable #1 Starters the better, because without one this Team is going nowhere. The best pitcher we've had since Doc left has been Romero and he is at best a very good #3 Starter. If you disagree, it's possible you are misjudge the quality of our Pitching.

In other news, young women are apparently behind the Jays' attendance boost.  If the article can be believed, chicks in fact don't dig the long ball, they prefer the short tweet.  "Hey baby, mine is 70 characters or less" is an unusual mating call for un homme d'un certain age.

Marketing the gameday experience as one big group hug was a stroke of genius. The Jays are way ahead of the curve on this, along with the Giants and a couple others, and I expect everyone else will follow along soon. With the Mets bringing up the rear, of course.

Unfortunately, one of the results of this is that the wave gets a bigger cheer than any actual baseball-related events during the game.
