Noah Syndergaard beat the Fisher Cats by not allowing an earned run in seven innings. Brett Lawrie had 2 hits DH'ing in that game. Vancouver laid down a beating. The GCL Jays won both ends of a doubleheader.

Elsewhere the news was not as good. Buffalo and Dunedin had chances to tie the games in the ninth but fell short. Lansing were one hit. Bluefield had just five hits.

Syracuse 4 Buffalo 3

Buffalo trailed 4-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth. Andy LaRoche hit a two run home run. Eugenip Velez followed with a walk and scored on a single by Mike McCoy. But Ryan Goins struck out with two on.

Thad Weber started and gave up four runs in 7 innings on 8 hits. McCoy and Ochinko had two hits each. Pillar was 1-4, Gose was 1-4, a double and had two outfield assists.

Binghamton 14  New Hampshire 3

New Hampshire were only outhit 12-10 but the difference was the Mets hit 5 home runs. Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched 7 innings. He gave up 3 runs but all were unearned. The Fisher Cat started was Ryan Tepera who was charged with 6 runs as was Dustin Antolin in relief.

Clint Robinson accounted for all the runs with a 3 run home run. Brett Lawrie DH'd and went 2-4. Ryan Schimpf also had 2 hits. AJ Jimenez and Andy Burns each had a hit.

Daytona 6 Dunedin 5

Dunedin scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to make a laugher close. Scott Copeland started and was not as sharp as he has been. He was charged with five of the six runs.

Dunedin outhit the Cubs 13-9. In the five run inning Pierce Rankin got it started with a double and Gabe Jacobo finished it with a 3 run home run. In the ninth Marcus Knecht and Matt Newman singled to put runners at first and third with no outs. But the Jays came up short and couldn't score the tying run. Jon Berti led the hitters with three hits. Newman, Pierre and Rankin had two hits each.

Lansing 0 Bowling Green 1

You could call a 1-0 loss a tough loss but when you only have one hit it's not really a tough loss. The lone hit was from Emilio Guerrero who broke up the no-no in the seventh. It was Guerrero who missed a play last month costing Kramer Champlin a no-hitter.

Taylor Cole allowed an unearned run in five innings. Ian Kadish pitched four shutout innings.

Vancouver 16 Hillsboro 4

Vancouver racked up 22 hits in this game. The Canadians led 11-1 in the fifth and cruised from there. LB Danzler was 4-6 with 3 doubles and 3 RBI. Dickie Thon and Andy Fermin were each 3-5. Michael Reeves, from Peterborough, continued to hit well going 2-4.

Kyle Anderson started and went 5 innings, he was charged with all 4 runs. Four relievers finished up including Bobby Brosnahan who might have lost his starting job to Scott Silverstein.

Elizabethton 3 Bluefield 0

The Jays had only 5 hits and that makes it tough to win. Derrick Loveless had two of the hits.

Brady Dragmire started and made an error leading to only one of the three runs he allowed being earned. He struck out 7 in 4 innings but gave up 6 hits. Joe Lovecchio pitched four shutout innings but had 7 base runners.

GCL Jays 8  GCL Astros 3 - continuation of July 5th game

This game was suspended Friday in the first inning. The Jays scored 2 runs in the second and five runs in the fifth. The hits in the second and fifth innings were mainly from different hitters but Gabriel Cenas had an RBI double in both innings. The Jays had 14 hits, Tom Collins went 3-4 including two triples. Dan Jansen also had three hits. Cenas had two.

Tyler Gonzales took over when the game resumed and pitched 1.1 innings. He did not give up a hit or a run but he was charged with a run when he hit a batter, followed that with a wild pitch, and then a passed ball and a sac fly created a run. Dan Lietz pitched three innings and recorded 6 K's. He was charged with a run. Jesus Tinoco pitched the final four innings, shutout innings. Ex-Jay Joe Musgrove made his 2013 debut and gave up 2 runs in 2 innings.

GCL Astros 2 GCL Jays 7 - game 2

A doubleheader sweep for the Jays. Tim Mayza, who was shelled his last time out pitched three shutout, hitless innings with 6 K's.  Connor Greene pitched two innings, out of a 7 inning contest, and got the win as he gave up one run.

The Jays had ten hits. Tom Collins, who had two triples in game 1, had a double in game two with 2 RBI's. Sean Hurley did have a triple as part of his 3-3 day. Franklin Barreto, Will Dupont and Daniel Devonshire had two hits each.

Anthopoulos disclosed yesterday, by the way, that Pillar was very nearly promoted to the majors when Melky Cabrera was injured. It sounds like he'll be on the Jays at some point this season for sure.

Lawrie is back at third base today for the Fisher Cats.  It looks like Rajai Davis was following the game in Buffalo and decided to keep up.

Chien-Ming Wang got the start for the Bisons in the second game and has been holding his own in typical fashion- 4 innings, 0 walks, 1 K.

Another excellent game for Stroman, and his longest outing of the season: 7 innings, 8 strikeouts, zero walks, just 4 hits. Time for a promotion to Buffalo? Or maybe even the majors in a few weeks??

Also in the same NH game: Andy Burns has smashed the first 2 home runs of his AA career -- and he hit them both in the same inning. Fisher Cats now leading 16-2 in the 7th inning.
