The Dominicans won a game in regulation and the Lugnuts only needed half an inning to win another. Other than that, it was an ugly Tuesday on the farm as the affiliates went 2-5.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 6 Buffalo 5 (Game 1 — 7 Innings)
Moosic, PA — Chad Jenkins (0-2) was staked to a 3-0 lead but that was gone by the third inning. He only made it through 4 2/3 frames and was whacked for six runs, including two homers, among his 10 hits. His K-BB total was 1-0 and his GO/FO total is 9-2. Tommy Hottovy walked a batter but stranded a runner to finish off the fifth for Jenkins. John Stilson finished up with a one-hitter in his one frame of work.
A two-run double by Ricardo Nanita got the Herd up and running in the first. Anthony Gose singled in another run in the second. Moises Sierra connected for a two-run homer in the seventh to bring the Bisons to within a run. Nanita then singled with one out and Eugenio Velez pinch-ran for him. Velez was thrown out trying to steal second. Ryan Langerhans walked and Sean Ochinko singled him to second but the rally died on a Ryan Goins groundout. Sierra had three hits while Gose, Nanita and Goins had two hits apiece. Gose was also caught stealing for the seventh time this season. Luis Jimenez had a double and two walks. Mike McCoy added a double. Jim Negrych was 1-for-3.

Moosic, PA — The Yankees completed the doubleheader sweep with a five-run outburst against Todd Redmond (1-1) in the third inning. Redmond's other three innings were fine as he struck out seven and walked nobody. However, he gave up a homer among his five hits. Thad Weber pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits while whiffing one. Lefty Buddy Carlyle retired the only hitter he faced to finish things up.
Mauro Gomez supplied the Herd's offence with a two-run poke over the wall, his 17th of the season. Anthony Gose singled and scored in front of Gomez. Luis Jimenez had the other two hits for the Bisons, including a double. Moises Sierra, Jim Negrych, Eugenio Velez and Ryan Goins were hitless in 15 combined plate appearances. Mike Nickeas was 0-for-2.

Manchester, NH — Checking the home run column on the pitching line next to the starter...and yes, another crooked number! This one belonging to Marcus Walden (4-7), who served up two gopherballs in six frames and five runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out one but he racked up a whopping 15 outs on the ground. Shawn Griffith was nicked for a run on two hits and a walk over two frames in his AA debut. Lefty Evan Crawford was charged with a run on two hits in his lone inning of work. Griffith and Walden tied Walden in the K column with one apiece.
Brad Glenn had two of the Fisher Cats five hits and also had a base on balls. Kevin Pillar, A.J. Jimenez and Ryan Schimpf had the others with Pillar and Jimenez each getting a double. Pillar also threw out a runner at second base from center field. Brian Van Kirk and Clint Robinson were both 0-for-2 with two bases on balls. Kevin Nolan and Kevin Ahrens were both 0-for-4 with two whiffs apiece and Tommy Manzella was 0-for-3.

Palm Beach, FL — Casey Lawrence (3-6) was staked to a 2-0 lead but it didn't last. He was an out short of five innings and was hit around as the Cardinals collected 10 hits and walked twice to score five times. Chuck Ghysels left a Lawrence duck on the pond and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of one-hit ball with one strikeout. Southpaw Tyler Ybarra finished up with two scoreless frames, overcoming a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.
A pair of Canadians teamed up for Dunedin's two runs in the second with Toronto's Marcus Knecht tripling home a single from Port Moody, B.C.'s Mike Crouse. Knecht would score on a Nick Baligod groundout. Dunedin tried to claw back from a 5-2 deficit with an RBI double from Derrick Chung in the sixth and a Gabe Jacobo RBI groundout in the seventh. They went down in order in the eighth and ninth. Crouse, Knecht and Andy Burns all had two-hit games with Burns drawing a walk and stealing his 20th base of the year. Peter Mooney had a single. Jon Berti was 0-for-5 and Chris Schaeffer was 0-for-4.
Lansing 5 South Bend 4 (12 Innings)
Lansing, MI — This game ended on a cliffhanger back on April 12 but it came to a satisfying conclusion for the Lugnuts on Tuesday. With the game resuming in the bottom of the 12th inning, Gustavo Pierre gave the Lugnuts the walk-off victory with an two-out RBI single to score Jorge Flores, who singled and went to second on a Dalton Pompey walk.
Ian Kadish (1-0) had to wait almost two months to get the victory. He had struck out two of the three hitters he faced in a perfect frame.
South Bend 4 Lansing 3
Lansing, MI — In the regularly scheduled contest, Southpaw Alonzo Gonzalez (2-5) kept the Diamondbacks farm club in check by holding them down to a run over five innings. However, back-to-back jacks burned him in the sixth. That led to a final line of three runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Gonzalez also committed a balk, pushing a pair of runners into scoring position and that led to a run-scoring fly ball in the fourth. Lefty Colton Turner made his season debut in which he gave up a run on two hits and a walk but punched out a pair. Justin Jackson finished up with two scoreless frames with a 1-1 K-BB ratio.
Dalton Pompey jump-started the Lugnuts offence with a triple and scampered home on a passed ball in inning number one. Pompey singled home another run in the third to score Emilio Guerrero, who singled and stole second. Guerrero doubled home a Chris Hawkins two-bagger in the seventh. Pompey had a three-hit night while Hawkins and Guerrero had two each. Pompey and Guerrero also stole a base to give them 21 and 11 on the season respectively. Pompey has been only caught once. Dwight Smith Jr. was 0-for-3 but walked twice. Christian Lopes, Gustavo Pierre, Carlos Ramirez and Kellen Sweeney were a combined 0-for-16. Seth Conner was 0-for-3 and pinch-hitter Jorge Flores was 0-for-1 to make it 0-for-20.

San Pedro de Macoris, DR — The Jays exploded for five runs in the first. Richard Urena doubled home the first Blue Jays run and came home on two wild pitches. Ronniel Demorizi singled in a run, Javier Hernandez lifted a sacrifice fly and the final run of the frame scored on a balk. Three more runs were scored in the sixth on a fielding error by the Tigers left fielder and back-to-back doubles by Michael De La Cruz and Juan Tejada. Deiferson Barreto doubled home the final run in the seventh. Barreto had a single and a walk to go along with his extra-base hit. Juan Kelly and Juan Fuente had the other base hits. Fuente also walked and stole a base. Dean Bell was 0-for-4.
Francisco Diaz, southpaw Juliandry Higuera (1-0) and Jairo Rosario split the nine-inning workload evenly. Diaz gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk but rung up five batters. A De La Cruz passed ball resulted in the run being unearned when the runner advanced to second but Diaz made sure the run scored on his own throwing error. Higuera surrendered two runs on two hits but struck out a pair. Rosario got the save with three shutout frames, scattering three hits and a walk with one punchout.
