Kevin Pillar and John Tolisano at the top of the order led New Hampshire to victory.  Marcus Walden and Matt Wright supported on the mound.  Dunedin stole a win with an eighth inning rally.  Lansing were soundly beaten.  Buffalo were rained out.

Syracuse at Buffalo - postponed

There will be a  doubleheader on August 12 in case any of you want to head down to see two games.

Trenton 3  New Hampshire 6

The top of the order helped the Fisher Cats score five runs in the first three innings.  In the first Kevin Pillar doubled and John Tolisano singled.  One run scored on a balk and another on a Brad Glenn single.  In the third Pillar and Tolisano were on base for Ryan Schimpf to hit a three run home run.  Pillar was 3-5, Tolisano 2-3 with a walk.  Schimpf has four hits this season, three homers.

Marcus Walden pitched well.  On the positive side he got 9 groundouts versus one flyout, and until he tired in his last inning he didn't walk anyone.  On the negative side he did give up 7 hits and only lasted 4.1 innings.  Matt Wright was excellent in relief, 2.2 innings, one hit allowed.

Tampa 3  Dunedin 4

Dunedin scored in the seventh and eighth to steal a win.  Scott Copeland gave the Jays seven good innings but left down 3-2.  The comeback started in the eighth with two out, a walk and a hit batter got it going.  Jon Jones singled in the tying run.  In the eighth Gabe Jacobo tripled in the winning run.

The Jays had only five hits.  Jacobo had two.  Jones, Andy Burns and Matt Newman had the other hits and are the only hitters in the lineup batting .300.

Lansing 1  Bowling Green 10

Gustavo Pierre hit a home run in the first inning and it was downhill from there for the Lugnuts.  Taylor Cole was hit for five runs in less than three innings.  Three relievers all allowed runs.  Pierre was the only Lugnut with two hits.

Like the Big Team, it's too early to comment on anything of significance. Most of these prospects are from pre-2011 draft/Int. signings. Some 2011's are this advanced, but most are not here, just yet. It's interesting to speculate on who get where and when, especially the under-achieving 2012 Draft.

Isn't it the 2011 draft that's underachieving?

We've barely seen the 2012 draft.

Minor league fans looking for some solace after a rough day might want to keep an eye on the Dunedin game tonight.

Actually both of the ongoing games in the minors offer some good news.  Deck Mcguire is pitching well in NH and has had 10 swinging strikes through 52 pitches in 4 innings.  A good number of ground balls as well.

Sweet outting by Sanchez - 5 no hit innings before the pen came in and blew it (Crawford giving up 2 runs right away).  Just 3 K vs 2 BB though, which isn't good but still that has to be a boost to his confidence.

Everyone is entitled to their standards and definitions of underachieving.

For me, 1993 for example produced R Halladay in our draft. If that draft produced nothing else, he did enough for me to make it a successful draft.

I live with, and probably many others with the exciting top 10 prospect lists that seem to produce little. That is to be expected IMO.
A gem when ever it happens is great. We can always use a few 4th OF, utility IF & half decent relievers if they develop.

It hurts to lose a top prospect. I think most of the time the pain fades if those lost prospects produce nothing.

By trading away so many prospects AA has depleted the farm. In 5 years we will know by how much he overpaid.
