Despite managing just eight runs combined over four games, the affiliates split Saturday thanks to some strong pitching and timely hitting.
Memphis 3 Las Vegas 5
Travis D'Arnaud is hot. Five of his seven homers have come over the last six games, including one last night- his only hit on a 1-for-4 night. Anthony Gose and David Cooper each had a pair of singles while Adeiny Hechavarria was 1-for-3. Chris Woodward also homered.
Aaron Laffey went the distance for the 51s, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits. He walked none and struck out five.
Trenton 3 New Hampshire 1
Just six hits for the Fisher Cats on Saturday. Two came off the bat of John Tolisano who smacked his first homer, singled, and walked. And that was pretty much that from the offense.
Randy Boone started and lasted just four batters. According to manager Sal Fasano, Boone felt some discomfort in his surgically repaired elbow and was lifted as a precaution. A quartet of relievers filled in quite admirably with only Danny Farquhar allowing runs.
Dunedin 0 Bradenton 3
Four hits was all the D-Jays could manage. Gabe Jacobo had two of them, both doubles. Ryan Schimpf and Jon Talley had the others.
Sean Nolin started and was masterful going six shutout frames, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. Tryston Magnuson allowed all three runs in the seventh.
Lansing 2 Lake County 1
The Lugnuts offense managed just two hits but made the most of them. Andrew Burns doubled in a run while Chris Hawkins picked up a single. Kevin Pillar had an RBI and walked.
Marcus Walden and Blake McFarland combined for eight strong innings. Walden allowed a run on seven hits while McFarland tossed four shutout frames on three hits. They each walked two and struck out three.
