Dunedin won easily behind Casey Lawrence and Marcus Knecht. Knecht had two home runs and Lawrence pitched eight innings. Lansing won a one run game, Aaron Sanchez pitched well, Justin Nicolino did OK. Las Vegas lost but Travis Snider did hit a home run. New Hampshire had a doubleheader rained out.

Las Vegas 2  New Orleans 5

Las Vegas finish their road trip with a day game.  Scott Richmond has been pitching well recently and he pitched well in this one through four innings.  After four he had given up one run on three hits.  Travis Snider hit a solo home run in the fourth to tie the game and the 51's went ahead 2-1 in the fifth when Ruben Gotay singled and scored on a ground out.  But in the bottom of the fifth Scott Cousins hit a two run home run off Richmoind and then the wheels came off the wagon.  After the home run, three singles and two walks in the same fifth inning made it a four run inning and gave New Orleans the 5-2 lead they would carry to the end.

Las Vegas recorded just five hits, in addition to Snider's home run Yan Gomes had the only other extra base hit, a double.

New Hampshire  New Britain  - doubleheader postponed

Dunedin 10  Clearwater2

Casey Lawrence was masterful in this game pitching eight innings and only giving up four hits. Marcus Knecht had a pretty good nicht too with two solo home runs. That gives him six on the year. Sean Ochinko added a solo home run. The DJays tallied fourteen hits with five players having multi hit games.

Lansing 2 Dayton 1

Sanchelino went eight innings tonight leaving Javier Avendano to run through a 1-2-3 ninth. Aaron Sacnhez started and in his four shutout innings he K'd five, walked two and gave up an infield single. Justin Nicolino was tagged for a double by the first batter he faced. That runner scored on a single for Dayton's only run. Nicolino allowed six hits in his four innings, he didn't walk anyone and he struck out three.

Lansing scored both their runs in the fourth inning. They loaded the bases with no outs on a single and two walks. KC Hobson and Marcus Brisker delivered sac fly's to score the two runs. The Lugnuts had five hits, no hitter had more than one.

3 Stars:

3rd star: Aaron Sanchez

2nd star:Marcus Knecht

1st star: Casey Lawrence

Gerry, any thoughts as to who will make the Vancouver Canadians roster?
Gerry - Wednesday, May 16 2012 @ 09:57 AM EDT (#256431) #

I haven't gone through the rosters yet but I would guess it will be a combination of some of last years players, college players selected in this years draft and players who played in Bluefield last season and are still in extended.

Some names include:

Eric Arce

Balbino Fuenmayor

Gustavo Pierre

Andy Fermin

Zach Breault

Taylor Cole

Drew Permison

Nick Purdy

Brandon Kaye

The draft will influence the players going.  If the Jays were to draft a college first baseman or third baseman it might bump Arce or Pierre down.

The Northwest League is a college level league that is not too far removed, standard wise, from the Midwest League.  For that reason Vancouver will tend to get College players and more experienced non college players.

I assume Norris, Anderson, Smith, etc. will end up in Bluefield.

Magnuson outrighted off the 40 man today.  Making room for Vlad possibly?  Another move maybe?

Perhaps making room for Yan Gomes...

Gomes may be the right move if the Lawrie suspension starts immediately; but shouldn't the "appeal or not" decision not be made until we know the actual length/terms of the suspension? Ten days would be worth appealing, and 2 days not-so-much.

I think Vlad would be the one added to the 40 and McCoy coming up in case of Lawrie suspension.

" i dream of a summer where i get to watch" ...    plus Musgrove makes ten fairly projectible prospects chomping at the bit ... not to mention the next wave of the IFA's

Cecil had a nice outing in AA today, 5 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's and 7 groundouts, no word on velocity while I was listening to the game.

Also of note Casey Lawrence tweeted that Sean Ochinko has been promoted to AA. AJ Jimenez was scheduled to start the first game of the Fisher Cats double header today and there was a late line up change and Jeroloman took his spot in the lineup.

The announcer said there was no word on why Jimenez was pulled but I'm guessing an injury.

Jimenez --elbow-maybe Tommy John

Jimenez --elbow-maybe Tommy John

Is that a report from Kevin Gray or the NH radio guys, or something else?

Just speculation from a guy who knows Ochinko about the Tommy John but it is a elbow problem according to this source...take it for what it is worth until an official announcement

smcs:  But Gomes was added to the 40-man yesterday, not Vlad.  fwiw, Griffin in the Star discusses the options for playing third, and recommended Gomes (before the 40-man move was made).  He apparently has played more games recently at third on the farm than has McCoy, and presumably more upside as well.
