Update @ 11:10am - The Bluefield Blue Jays have done likewise.

Henderson Alvarez is featured on the Dunedin Blue Jays website.  The Venezuelan righty spent 2010 in Dunedin but spent the majority of 2011 with Double-A New Hampshire before getting called up by Toronto late in the season.

Not only will the Dunedin Blue Jays have a new look but they will have a new turf at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in 2012.

Other stories for your careful consideration...
  • Kevin Gray of the New Hampshire Union Leader shoots down recent speculation from this story in The Ottawa Citizen about Ottawa's prospects of landing an Eastern League franchise in 2013.  Speculation is the franchise will move to the nation's capital from Binghamton, the current Double-A home of the New York Mets.  Blue Jays director of minor league operations Charlie Wilson:
“Our organization has a policy about not commenting on rumors, whether it's about a player, potential trade or affiliation. Now if you want to talk about our relationship with New Hampshire, it's amazing.”

Gray also points out another factor in play in his blog:

"For one, the Fisher Cats may never pursue a PDC (ed note-player development contract) with a New York team, an agreement that is part of a territorial waiver signed by Red Sox team president Larry Lucchino. That contract clause is based on major-league TV markets and precludes the Fisher Cats from entering a PDC with the Mets or Yankees."
  • Congratulations to catcher Travis d'Arnaud of your Eastern League champion New Hampshire Fisher Cats.  He was named to the Double-A All-Star Team by Topps and Minor League Baseball.
  • Also, congratulations to Dunedin Blue Jays pitching coach Darold Knowles.  The one-time Expo was recently inducted into the Florida State League's Hall of Fame.
  • MLive.com says one official from the Lansing Lugnuts was happy to see Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos at Cooley Law School Stadium in 2011.
  • Larry Hook from MLive.com also has a feature on Lugnuts catcher Carlos Perez and caught up with outfielder Jake Marisnick.
  • Last but not least, all the best goes out to Vancouver Canadians infielder Bryan Kervin, who is battling ulcerative colitis.

John Sickels' Jays organization discussion thread is up (precursor to his top 20 prospects thread, which should be up within the next week or two). Lots of comments already.

RE:  AA visit to Lansing ... One of the plusses of having a minor league affiliate in a university town (besides the obvious) is having access to a sports psychology program. I would imagine that the Jays could utilize to some extent the accumulated knowledge of the MSU Psych Dept in dealing with the stresses that may arise in a prospects introduction to full season ball .

Over at Kevin Gray's blog I asked him, "How do you compare Hutchison and Molina?"

He replied, "I think Nestor has a higher ceiling based on stuff. The Jays rave about his raw power and devastating split-fingered fastball."

About Hutch who he also likes, "(Hutch) raised the bar as far as expectations. Excellent command and changeup."

Perhaps prompted by mylegacy Gray has announced his top 10 Jays prospects. Here is his number one:

RHP Nestor Molina -- This is the only place you'll see Molina as Toronto's No. 1 prospect. Sorry, folks, but I'm believing my own eyes and ignoring the grossly inaccurate scouting reports. The 22-year-old was Verlander-like in Double-A, dominating hitters to the tune of a 13.5 strikeouts/9 innings. Awesome stuff. Fastball (92-94-mph), devastating split, changeup. Pitching coach Pete Walker told me his stuff is "as good as I've seen at this level." Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus once tweeted, "Not a ton of stuff, a finesse type without much upside." Um, no.

Personally, I would have brought back the T-Bird for Dunedin and Bluefield. As bad as that logo was for a major league team, it would be a pretty good one for a minor league club.

Very much like Kevin Grays top 10 list. Seems to think a lot like myself. He seems to hear very good things about Carlos Perez....if Perez breaks out this coming season like a lot of us were expecting him to do this past year, the system just gets that much more ridiculous. I also like the idea of trading Hechevarria before he hits the majors. Put him in las vegas and let the PCL create an illusion that he can hit and cash in while he valued highly.
