Fresno 6 at Las Vegas 4
Vegas scored four runs in the first, mostly on homers from Darin Maestro Yanni and Chris "Bob" Woodward, but were stifled after that. Adeiny Hechavarria is cooling off, and went 0-4 with 2 Ks in this game, while Travis Snider didn't even play. So the role players and veterans did most of the damage, with Adam Loewen and Woodward each banging out three hits. Chad Beck allowed all six runs in 3.1 innings, but the bullpen was much better, shutting the Grizzlies out over the next 17 outs.
Trenton 4 at New Hampshire 3
Chad Jenkins after the first inning: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 K. Even with the first inning, in which he allowed four hits and three runs, the righty's line looks mighty fine, with a 9:2 GO:AO to boot. He left losing 3-2, and though the Cats managed one more run, Trenton played a cat and mouse game, never allowing New Hampshire to get the lead back.
Anthony Gose led off for the cats and hit a homer in four trips. Yan Gomes hit a two-run double.
Dunedin - no game scheduled
Dayton 17 at Lansing 7
Lansing could have used some Jason Lane in their bullpen. After Tyler Powell had a not-terrible five-inning outing, allowing four runs, Shawn Griffith, Alesone Escalante and Sam Strickland combined to allow 13 runs in the last four innings.
The good news: despite getting hammered (in baseball I mean, they weren't drunk), Lansing's offense actually functioned pretty effectively, and scored enough to win most games. Leading the way were Eli Boike (2-5, 2B, 3B, BB), Jake Marisnick (2-5) and Matt Nuzzo (3-5).
Vancouver 5 at Salem-Keizer 14
Yikes. Four different Vancouver pitchers allowed multiple runs, including starter Kramer Champlin (0.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER). Alex Pepe was good though! One out of five pitchers ain't bad. Okay, yeah it is.
If the offense was entirely made of Kevin Pattersons, the abysmal pitching wouldn't have mattered. The first baseman smacked three hits totalling eight total bases - two doubles and a home run. He also walked to have a near-perfect day at the plate. Matt Newman also homered.
Bluefield 7 at Greeneville 5
On Monday night, Greeneville was a little.... BLUE!!!!!!!!!!! I should write headlines for the BBC.
The B-Jays were down 5-1 early but scored in five different innings to claw back and defeat the G-Astros (haha, the Gastros). Chris Hawkins had two hits and a sac fly in four trips, and he also stole a base, while Kevin Pillar singled twice and doubled.
Deivi Estrada allowed all five runs in four innings but Les Williams and Misaul Diaz shut Greeneville down the rest of the way.
GCL Jays 12 at GCL Tigers 4
The G-Jays scored six in the second inning and never looked back. Everybody got in on the action - including Chris Peters, who pinch-hit for Dickie Thon in the 8th inning and promptly smacked a grand slam. Eric Arce (#14) and Jacob Anderson (#2) also hit home runs and Melvin Garcia and Justin Atkinson each went 3-5 with a double.
2011 draft pick Joe Musgrove got the start and went his typical three innings. He allowed a single earned run on three hits while punching out a pair.
