GCL Blue Jays 10 @ GCL Pirates 7 (10 innings) – Boxscore
The GCL Blue Jays were down 6-0 after 5 innings and were down 7-5 going into the top of the ninth. However, the GCL Blue Jays added two in that inning to force extras, where the GCL Blue Jays scored three in the top of the tenth to get the victory. Randal Thompson started and gave up six runs over 1.2 innings, although none were earned. While it might be tempting to blame Thompson for most of these runs on the theory he should have got out of the inning at some point regardless, that really isn’t true in this case. Thompson was on the mound for three errors by Santiago Nessy (he added a fourth later in the game for good measure), along with errors by George Carroll and Dickie Thon Jr. One of Nessy’s errors came on a steal attempt at second and the throw was so wild the runner came around to score. Some solid relief pitching was turned in by Luis Mendez, who threw 3 innings of one-hit ball, and Colby Broussard, who picked up the win with 2.1 one-hit innings.
Nessy was 2-for-5 with a double, but probably still found it a game to forget. Dalton Pompey was 3-for-6 and finished a homer shy of the cycle. Andrew Burns was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. He hit a solo homer in the ninth inning and Eric Arce also hit a solo homer in the ninth to tie the game. Arce was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, 2 RBI and two free passes. Sony Javier homered with one out in the tenth for the winning run. Christian Frias singled and Pompey singled him in. Matt Abraham grounded out, but beat the play at first and allowed Arce to single in the third run of the inning
