It was “even steven” on the farm Friday, but Pitchers were knocked around pretty hard and the bats were nothing to write home about. So 3-3 on the night actually sounds a lot better than the performances turned in by the affiliates.
4,251 Cashman Field fans saw their hometown 51s drop their second straight to the River Cats. Starter and losing pitcher Brad Mills (7-7) was slammed for 10 hits, 7 runs and 3 HRs in his 7.0 IP. Overall Las Vegas pitchers gave up 15 hits and 5 HRs.
Brian Jeroloman (1 for 4, 2 RBIs) produced half of the 51s runs in the 2nd when his single plated Kevin Howard (2 for 5, R, RBI, K) and Chris Woodward (1 for 3, R, BB, K) after they both singled. Howard batted one in with his second hit, a single in the third. And the last Las Vegas run came in the 9th when Adam Loewen (2 for 4, 2B, RBI, BB, 2 Ks) doubled in Darin Mastroianni (0 for 3, R, 2 BB) who had walked. Ricardo Nanita (1 for 5) and Manny Mayoson (1 for 4) each put up a single on the evening.
Friday night, 5,733 New Hampshire fans saw their Fisher Cats go down to their fourth straight loss at home. Despite striking out 5, starter Zach Stewart (4-5) was tagged for 10 hits and 7 runs in 4.0 IP and took the loss. BJ Lamura and Matt Daly came on for 5 innings of good relief. Travis d’Arnaud (1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K) had his 3rd throwing error. Two fielding errors came from Mark Soboewski (2 for 4, 2K), his 8th and Anthony Gose (1 for 4, 2B, BB, K) who muffed a routine fly ball for his 1st error of the year.
John Tollisano (0 for 1, RBI, 3BB) got his RBI in the fourth when he walked when the bases were loaded with Mike McDade (1 for 4, R, K), d’Arnaud, and Jonathan Diaz (1 for 3, BB). Moises Sierra (1 for 4, RBI, BB, 2 Ks) drove in the 3rd run for New Hampshire with a single in the 5th.
Dunedin vs Palm Beach (Postponed)
The hits were equal at 7 each, but the runs came out on top for the Luggies on a steamy 87 degree evening in Michigan’s capital city. The 8,149 Lansing faithful saw starter Marcus Walden turn in a solid 5.2 IP with 4 hits, a run, a BB and 2 Ks, but didn’t get the win. Dustin Antolin (1-0) got his first win with 1.1 IP, 2 hits and a K. Danny Barnes came on with 5th save with 2.0 IP, striking out three.
The first run for the Lugnuts came in the 4th when Carlos Perez (3 for 4, R, K) doubled and then was doubled in by Marcus Knecht (1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB). In the 6th, Lansing used a double again to score when Jake Marisnick (2 for 4, 2B, RBI) hit his 17th 2 bagger, driving in Perez who had singled. Matt Nuzzo (1 for 3) and Bryson Namba (1 for 3, K) added singles as well.
Despite being out hit by Spokane, the Canadians were still able to disappoint 6,876 Indians home fans on a clear 71 degree Friday evening. Winning pitcher Travis Garrett (2-1) threw just 1.2 IP with a pair of Ks, a BB and gave up a lone hit. Starter Jesse Hernandez threw 3.2 IP and gave up 5 runs on an HR, 5 hits and 3 BB. Vancouver shut out the Indians from the 5th inning on including a good 3 IP performance from Alesone Escalante who struck out 3. Vancouver had three errors in the field. Two from Hernandez and one from Kevin Patterson (2 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBIs, K), his first of the year.
Patterson atoned for his error with 2 RBIs. Two more RBIs were came from the bat of catcher Garrett Maines (1 for 3, R, HR, 2 RBIs, BB) who hit his third round tripper of the year, a 2 run blast in the 3rd inning. Kevin Patterson had the Canadians only multi-hit game and drove in a pair as well. Nicholas Baligod (1 for 3, R, RBI, 2 BB, K), Stephen McQuail (1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 Ks), and Matt Johnson (0 for 4, RBI, K) each contributed an RBI.
The boys from Bluefield were victorious in a completed early 6 inning contest on a rainy 78 degree summer night in Danville. Starter Jose Vargas threw 3.0 IP allowing a run on 3 hits (including and HR), 2 BBs, and 2 Ks. Winning pitcher Jonathan Lucas (1-1) came on for a pair of IP, striking out one and giving up 2 hits and no runs. Reliever Kenllie Santana pitched a good inning, striking out 2.
Bluefield’s runs came in the first inning from the bats of shortstop Cody Bartlet (1 for 2, 2B, 2 RBI’s) and Christopher Hawkins (1 for 3, RBI, K).
GCL Bluejays vs GCL Braves (Postponed)
Getting outhit 12 to 5 and then committing 6 errors did not make for the DSL Blue Jays’ better days. Starting and losing pitcher Yefry Dek Risario (0-4) threw 3.0 IP with 2 hits, 1 K and 2 R – 0 ER. DBJ’s relief allowed 3 more ER, and 5 R on 10 more hits. Double error producers were Maydawin De LaCruze (0 for 3,K) and Ricardo Guillen (1 for 2, BB, K) while Emilio Guerrero (0 for 3) and Nelson Aguida (0 for 3, K) provided one error each.
The DBJ’s lone run came in the six inning on a Cesar Barazarte (1 for 3, RBI, BB) single after singles by Mauricio Negahashi (1 for 4, R, K) and Jacinto Cipriota (2 for 4, K).
