The full-season affiliates didn't win a game, but a couple short-season clubs scored a bunch of runs to somewhat salvage the night for the farm.
Tacoma 19 at Las Vegas 5
Would you believe that three different 51s pitchers had scoreless outings in this game? The scoring came almost exclusively off Rey Gonzalez (3 IP, 10 ER) and B.J. LaMura (1 IP, 8 ER). LaMura now sports a 67.50 AAA ERA.
David Cooper had three hits with a double to lead Las Vegas to a crushing defeat.
New Hampshire 4 at Trenton 6
Everyone's favourite prospect du jour Henderson Alvarez got the start. He wasn't spectacular, but he was fine - 5.1 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 2 K, 10-2 GO-AO. Two of those hits came in the 6th, when Alvarez was replaced by Yohan Pino, who allowed two of Alvarez' and three of his own runs to score. That would be all the scoring Trenton could muster, but it was enough to eke out the Fisher Cats.
Anthony Gose had two singles, his 35th stolen base, and he induced a balk, Travis d'Arnaud singled and walked, and Mike McDade doubled and sac flied.
Dunedin 1 at Daytona 3
Dunedin was shut down by Jeffrey Lorick, who hurled six shutout innings. They finally got on the board in the eighth when consecutive singles by Justin Jackson, A.J. Jimenez and Sean Ochinko cashed in a run, but it was too little, too late.
Dumas Garcia gets the pitching mention, as he threw 2.1 shutout innings with five strikeouts.
Lansing 2 at Dayton 9
Lansing actually tied this one up late in the game, scoring their two runs to make it 2-2 in the seventh. The very next half-inning, the Dragons put up a six-spot against the Luggies' bullpen, and the game was out of reach.
Danny Barnes started and allowed just one earned run over 3.2 innings, striking out six. On the hitting side, K.C. Hobson had two singles and Matt Nuzzo hit a two-run homer.
Vancouver 8 at Salem-Kelzer 5
Finally, a win! Vancouver saved the day by pounding out 17 hits against the Volcanoes. Six different Canadians had multi-hit games, including Roan Salas (4-4, 2B) and Jonathon Berti (3-4, 3 RBIs). Zack Breault was very effective, pitching 5.1 shutout innings.
Bristol 6 at Bluefield 10
The short-season affiliates were on a roll Monday night! Especially Art Charles, who blasted two home runs to lead the B-Jays (gross) to victory. Shortstop Cody Bartlett and catcher Chris Schaeffer each had two hits and a walk. David Rollins got the start and pitched very well, shutting the White Sox out over 5.2 innings and striking out six.
GCL Jays 4 at GCL Braves 6
The G-Jays were leading this one 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth, but Adonys Cardona, who had already pitched two perfect innings, tired a bit and allowed five singles to score four runs.
Kevin Patterson had the best day at the plate, doubling twice and walking.
DSL Braves 4 at DSL Jays 3
Nothing particularly interesting from this game, except that the DSL Jays apparently have a player named Mauricio Nagahashi from Argentina.
Three Stars!
3. Roan Salas - 4-4, 2B
2. David Rollins - 5.2 IP, 0 ER, 6 K
1. Art Charles - 2 HR
