Justin Nicolino, the Jays' second round pick out of high school in 2010, had a pro debut to remember, as did reliever Blake McFarland.

Reno 12 Las Vegas 9

Kyle Drabek's mental woes continue. The youngster walked seven batters in 4.0 innings and also gave up eight hits. Both Willie Collazo and Rommie Lewis were beaten about but Mike MacDonald managed a scoreless inning. At the plate, Ryan Budde led the way with three hits. Six more hitters banged out two base knocks: Manny Mayorson, Ramon Vazquez, David Cooper, Eric Thames, Adam Loewen, and Ryan Shealy. Thames hit two doubles, while Vazquez hit a homer and drove in five runs.

Erie 3 New Hampshire 1

Starter Joel Carreno is now four strikeouts away from 100 on the season after whiffing another seven batters on the evening. He gave up two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. Ron Uviedo gave up a run in an inning of work, while Yohan Pino struck out two batters over two innings. At the plate, the Fisher Cats managed just two hits - one by Anthony Gose and one by Moises Sierra (a solo homer). Adeiny Hechavarria went 0-for-4 with two Ks.

Dunedin - Off Night

Lansing 8 Dayton 2

Drew Hutchison took the Lugnuts team on his shoulders and dominated. He gave up just two hits and a walk in six innings. He struck out 10 batters. Sean Nolin worked in relief and gave up a solo homer but struck out the side. Brandon Berl gave up one run in 2.0 innings. Back to Hutchison: In four June starts, he has yet to allow a run (earned or unearned) in 24.0 innings. He's given up 11 hits and three walks with 35 Ks. A promotion may be in order. At the plate, Jake Marisnick, Marcus Knecht, and Michael Crouse each hit a home run. Marisnick, Knecht and Oliver Dominguez each had two hits. K.C. Hobson went 1-for-2 with three walks.

Vancouver 4 Yakima 0

There was some fine pitching for Vancouver. Starter Justin Nicolino allowed just one hit over five innings in his first pro start. He walked one, struck out five and induced five ground-ball outs. Blake McFarland worked the final four innings - also his pro debut - and did not give up a hit or a walk. He struck out four batters. On offense, Jonathan Jones went 1-for-2 with two walks. Matt Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double, and Jonathan Berti went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Garrett Maines hit a two-run homer. Nick Baligod had a hit, a stolen base and an outfield assist.

DSL Jays - Off Day

The reports on Twitter are that Nicolino's FB sat 90-93 mph from the port side, and touched 95.

Drew Hutchison is destroying the MWL.  A promotion to Dunedin is definitely in order.

GCL Jays underway today; Bluefield opens tomorrow.

Drabek is an old youngster; he's 2 months older than Travis Snider.

Congratulations to the Lugnuts who clinched a playoff spot yesterday.  Going into the final game of the first half the Lugnuts had to win and hope that Great Lakes lost.  Both of those happened and while the teams were tied in games behind, the Lugnuts had a higher winning percentage and that was the tie-breaker that got them into the playoffs.

And with the playoffs locked up, I am assuming the promotion train out of Lansing will begin (Hutchinson, Knecht, Turnbull, etc.)

I guess Hutchison is trying hard for the big-game pitcher tag early.

LF, do you see them moving any other outfielders (Crouse/Marsinick).  I was also curious about Nolan.  I figured they moved him down and Nuzzo in from extended to help solidify the middle infield.  Nolan's old for the league and was doing well in Dunedin while there.  Any chance he gets moved back as well?

I think Crouse and Marisnick will see some time in Dunedin this season, but I don't think it will be until the end.  THey are still both very young and navigating through their first full season.  The reason I see Knecht going up is he seems to be a little more advanced and spent a year in Junior College.  It also depends on what happens a the levels above Lansing as well.

As far as Nolan, I'm not sure what the long term plan is for him.  I wasn't surprised they moved Pierre becaust that really happened and that move is seemingly what dropped Nolan back to Lansing, but in his brief time here earlier this season, he dominated and he was doing quite well in Dunedi as well.  I think he will move up, but I didn't think he would be dropped back down after his last stint in Lansing either.

With Kenny Wilson out for the year with shoulder surgery, Dunedin could definitely use another bat that plays the outfield so Knecht would make sense.

There is a Thon sighting in the GCL game today.

I was hoping we'd get some first hand reports out of Vancouver this year but it looks like the only guys you might consider to be prospects are Nicolino and Opitz.

Griffin Murphy is on the GCL roster.  I am surprised he didn't make it to Bluefield.

Anthony Gose has been ice-cold this month (.130, with a ton of Ks), but it's still fun to see how often he's running. He's had just 7 hits and 4 walks, but made 8 steal attempts (7 successful). And while you could probably figure in couple of non-hit baserunning appearances, he's also had a homer and a triple, which obviously didn't allow for stealing. (and one would assume there might have been a runner on ahead of him once or twice.)

I sure hope he figures out how to swing the bat consistently, because he looks like he could be great fun to watch.

I wonder what's doing with Musgrove, does he make it onto the Bluefield roster or does he wait for organizational shuffling to pitch for the GCL Blue Jays as he's not currently on the roster.

Thon went 1-2 today...the was replaced by Vega-Rosado who went on to homer.

Does anyone know the mysterious reason why Thon was not playing for the first few months of this season?  I read something vague about a "blood condition" and I also read something about "personal reasons."  Any clues?  Is it a chronic issue that could recur in the future or is it completely over now?

There is a Thon sighting in the GCL game today.   Sounds like someone needs to pull up their pants, eh?
