Another day, another sweep for the scorching affiliates. And for good measure, all three won in comeback fashion.

Las Vegas 8    Omaha 6

Rain delayed this one for over two hours in the first so starter Brett Cecil wasn't able to throw a pitch. It was worth the wait for the 51s, though as they scored once in the 8th, three times in the 9th thanks to a Danny Perales triple and twice more in the tenth as Travis Snider broke out with his 1st HR.

Snider was on base five times thanks to the homer and four walks. Brett Lawrie was 3-for-6 while David Cooper and Adam Loewen had two hits a piece.

Willie Collazo started in Cecil's absence and went five innings. Danny Farquhar picked up the win with two perfect innings of relief.

Dunedin 6    Bradenton 4

The D-Jays continued the comeback theme with a three-run ninth of their own thanks to a two-out,  three-run homer from Ryan Goins. And really, he was the only guy who did much of anything as he picked up two hits and drove in five.

Ryan Tepera started and went five, allowing four runs on ten hits. Chris Malone was the winner in relief while Wes Etheridge picked up his 14th save to go with a 0.84 ERA.

Bowling Green 9    Lansing 13

Another comeback in this one as the Lugnuts trailed 7-2 after just the second frame. But the Lansing offense came alive shortly thereafter as every Lugnut save Gustavo Pierre had multiple hits. Too many good performances to go through but Carlos Perez was 3-for-6 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored and a stolen base. Kevin Nolan was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI while Michael Crouse was 2-for-4 with a double and three driven in.

Daniel Webb started and had a day to forget, lasting just 1.2 frames and allowing seven runs on 8 hits. Casey Lawrence, on the other hand, was excellent in relief going four shutout innings and striking out four. Steve Turnbull picked up his 11th save.

Three Stars:

3rd Star: Travis Snider
- 1-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, 4 BB
2nd Star: Carlos Perez- 3-for-6, 3B, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB
1st Star: Ryan Goins- 2-for-4, HR, 5 RBI

Goins' clutch homer put old young friend Tyler Pastornicky back in mind. Pastornicky is off to a nice start for the Mississippi Braves at .305/.356/.438. For a middle infielder in double A at age 21, that's good.

Jimenez has missed the last couple of games after coming out in the 3rd inning. Presumably he has some kind of injury. Does anybody know what is up?

I think the Escobar/Reyes - Gonzalez/Pastornicky/Collins trade was a pretty fair one. Escobar has worked out well for the Jays - it's hard to overestimate the value of having a rock-solid SS who can hit a little. Reyes has been mediocre, but has picked it up in May (2.81 ERA, 1.208 WHIP) and has helped fill a temporary void in the Jays rotation.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez continues to be a serviceable short-term solution at short for Atlanta, Collins is really getting untracked as a lefty reliever for KC (0.93 ERA in May), and Pastornicky looks like a potentially useful middle infielder or utility player.

The thing I like about Dunedin is that they're not so dependent on one guy to carry them (Mcdade 2010). Seems like a different clutch performance everynight. Almost like they're in competition to be the one on any given night. Great chemistry which I believe is a reflection of the coaching staff doing a great job.

All of a sudden, it seems like everyone's drawing walks: McDade walked 4 times in April, 9 times in May; Gose went from 7 to 11; D'arnaud's gone from 3 to 6 in fewer games; Ahrens from 6 to 10; and Lawrie from 4 to 10.

It'll be interesting to see if this continues - in which case the Jays have a heck of a lot of good-looking prospects - or if it's just a blip. It's encouraging enough that Justin Jackson has miraculously turned into an on-base machine after several years of struggling with the strike zone. McDade, in particular, may be in the process of turning himself into a serious prospect.

The Escobar/Gonzalez trade still looks like a steal at this juncture...Yuni has been a top-10 shortstop at worst this year, and getting a long-term option at this position is worth considerably more than a fill-in, a future fringe starter/utility guy (assuming that Pastornicky doesn't explode) and a reliever with control woes. Which isn't to say that the Braves got hosed...but if we could fill all of our positions of need so well for so little, we'd be off to the races.

Have noticed that Marisnick is sitting for the second consecutive day; anyone aware of the issue there?

I think the Escobar/Reyes - Gonzalez/Pastornicky/Collins trade was a pretty fair one.

In terms of trades, I had been asking myself how the Jays could just get Nix by trading for him. After glancing the PCL batting leaders, how about getting the former White Sox 3B Josh Fields from Colorado AAA, just like the way getting Nix ? Fields is a better option than Nix until Lawrie is ready.

Brett Lawrie was a boss at the plate again today. 2-4, Two dingers, four RBI's and a walk. Lawrie wasnt so much of a boss at defense though, commiting two throwing errors.

Joel Carreno pitched today....

The good... six IP, no runs, seven K's

The bad....five walks, two hit batters, two wild pitches

He lowered his May ERA to 1.64.  In May he has given up 6 hits in 24.2 innings with 30 K's.  (He has also walked 18 in those 24.2 IP)

Intriguing

I know that the last time Lawrie made two throwing errors in one day he later tweeted he'd never played in such high winds.

Did that weather have anything to do with the errors? I'm wondering how much stock to put into 4 throwing errors this month.
