Yes it's good to hear Nix is nearly ready. I liked the acquisition considering how long the Jays left their third base puzzle unresolved. He's had a good glove as a second baseman and not a lot of experience at third (nine games in the minors, 68 in the majors entering this year), so I think his defense has a chance to be okay if he can stay healthy and gets regular playing time. He's ideally a bench player but the Jays left things too late to come up with an ideal solution for the 3B placeholder. He can do a little bit of everything, has a little pop and can run the bases. He's played a few games in the outfield and can be the emergency corner OF backup. If he helps keep EE off the field, that's a bonus. I expect Nix to start most games until Lawrie is called up. At 28, it wouldn't be a huge surprise to me if he has one of those middle-career "where did that come from" type of seasons, at least in terms of power and OBP. His patience at the plate to start the season was a pleasant surprise and something new for him.
