I apologize for the brevity of this report, but it's Mother's Day and my wife is celebrating her first ever special day. The affiliates had a good day with three wins in four tries.

Las Vegas 6 Tacoma 4

Canadian Scott Richmond was hit around thanks to four solo homers. Relievers Wil Ledezma and Danny Farquhar kept the baby Mariners off the board and combined to strike out five batters in 2.1 innings. Facing former big leaguer Lucas French, Eric Thames went 3-for-3 with two solo homers and a walk. Adam Loewen and Jonathan Diaz each had two hits. Loewen went deep and drove in two. Brett Lawrie was 1-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Travis Snider was 1-for-5 with two Ks.

Binghamton 4 New Hampshire 0 (Game 1)

Yohan Pino received the spot start and was very good with just two runs allowed in 5.0 innings. He gave up five hits and one walk with seven Ks. Ron Uviedo was touched up for two runs in an inning. The offense managed only six hits. Adeiny Hechavarria had two of those hits, including a double. Moises Sierra was 1-for-3 with a double. Diesel McDade, Yan Gomes, and Craig Stansberry also had hits. Anthony Gose was 0-for-3 but managed a walk.

New Hampshire 2 Binghamton 1 (Game 2)

Rey Gonzalez, a double-A veteran, continued to roll and now has an ERA at 1.40. He allowed just one run on four hits and three walks in 6.0 innings. Evan Crawford struggled with his control (2 walks) but he did not allow a hit or a run in 2.0 innings. Alan Farina received the save with a scoreless inning. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud returned from a concussion and went 2-for-3 with a double and also picked off a runner at second base. John Tolisano had two hits, while both Sierra and McDade had singles and RBIs. Darin Mastroianni went 0-for-3 but walked twice and stole a base.

Dunedin - Off Day

Lansing 9 Lake County 6

Starter Egan Smith allowed three unearned runs in 3.0 innings. He gave up six hits and a walk but struck out four. Alex Pepe struggled with his control again and walked three in 2.0 innings. Marcus Walden, working back from missing almost two years with Tommy John surgery, worked two scoreless innings. Both Scott Gracey and Steve Turnbull were touched up for single runs. Infielder Gustavo Pierre made his 20th error in 28 games and the club might need to look at moving him to the outfield sooner rather than later. It might help jump start his bat. He did have a single and a walk in this game. Michael Crouse went 2-for-4 with a homer and stolen base. Markus Brisker had two hits and also stole two bases. Marcus Knecht was 1-for-3 with an RBI and K.C. Hobson was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Jake Marisnick is stuck in a cold streak and went 0-for-3. Seldom-used Joe Bowen went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Three Stars
3. Markus Brisker, with two hits and two steals
2. Michael Crouse, 2-for-4 with a homer and a steal
1. Eric Thames, for three hits and two homers

Las Vegas batters have now hit 13 HR's in the 9 games since Travis Snider entered the lineup: Adam Loewen - 3, Eric Thames - 2, Brett Lawrie - 2, Ryan Budde - 2, Dewayne Wise - 1, Chris Woodward - 1, Jonathan Diaz - 1, Ryan Shealy - 1. Travis is still looking for his first. Doesn't look like there will be any quick fix for his power hitting problems.

Lawrie's first two outs each went about 424 feet to straight away centre, just missing home runs.

I love dead-centre power. And 425 feet sounds like an awful long way to the wall, thin air or not.

They are playing in Tacoma, which is not high-altitude.  Speaking of which, the 51s have a day game today.  Brad Mills is throwing a three-hit shutout through 6 innings, while Eric Thames crashed his 3rd homer in two days.  Travis Snider singled and doubled, and will be back for some post-game BP to see if he can do better tomorrow. He's about an hour from his hometown, so they'll probably let him get back for dinnertime.

Molina came in relief after Alvarez got smashed around today, and had another sweet outing with 2 hits, 0 walks, and 7k in 5 innings. His season line now is trending towards the ridiculous:

SP N.Molina (22): 31.2ip, 9.4k/9, 11.0k/bb, 0.6hr/9, 0.82whip, 1.71era
