Sacramento 13 Las Vegas 9 (13 innings)
Yeesh, glad I didn't stay up to write this recap. The River Cats scored twice in the 9th off Sean Henn before both teams traded runs in the 11th. But Chad Cordero settled matters in the 13th by allowing a four spot. Virtually everyone pitched so if you're interested in a specific 51s reliever, click on the link. Scott Richmond started and was a mixed bag. One one hand he allowed five runs on seven hits, including three homers, in five innings. On the other, he struck out seven against just one walk.
On the offensive side, Eric Thames and Dewayne Wise provided most of the runs as each homered. Wise drove in four with Thames knocking in three. Brian Jeroloman also went deep as part of a 2-for-6 night. Adam Loewen was 0-for-6 with three strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats led this one early after scoring five in the first but the bullpen imploded with a four-spot in the seventh. John Tolisano swung a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with two doubles while Yan Gomes drove in three. Anthony Gose had two hits, stole a pair of bags, and was caught once. Sounds about right. Mike McDade had a pair of hits while Adeiny Hechavarria was 1-for-5 with 3 strikeouts.
Chad Beck started this one and was mediocre, allowing four runs in five frames. Ronald Uviedo allowed a run in his 1.2 innings but struck out four.
Huh. There's really nothing standout about this one at all. Seriously, check the box score. Nothing. Nobody was great, nobody sucked. Just meh. A.J. Jimenez had a hit. Chris Hopkins got on three times. Kevin Ahrens struck out thrice. That's really it.
The mound was just as boring. Nestor Molina started and allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings. He didn't walk anybody and struck out three.
Here's something! The weather was 79 degrees and cloudy. Nice day.
West Michigan 0 Lansing 4 (Game 1)
The Lugnuts saved us from a winless day on the farm. Balbino Fuenmayor had two hits and drove in a run while Jake Marisnick walked twice and stole his ninth base. And in case you were wondering, yes, Gustavo Pierre did in fact make an error. It was his 16th on the year.
Egan Smith started and went 5.1 allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five.
West Michigan 2 Lansing 4 (Game 2)
A Lugnut sweep! Lansing managed but three hits in this one but Jake Marisnick had two of them, including a double, and drove in a pair while scoring twice on his own. Gustavo Pierre was 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI and, wait for it........his 17th error.
Sean Nolin took the hill and went 4.2 allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk against seven strikeouts. Scott Gracey took over from there and went the final 2.1 striking out four without allowing a hit.
