There are seven Jays Spring Training games available from the good people at MLB advanced media this year.  Starting Sunday March 6th against the Pirates.  Altogether there are 150 games being shown this spring, starting this Saturday with the Yankees and Phillies (Colon against Hamels).  The games are available as a freebie if you pony up the $15 for the At Bat app on Apple devices.

Since I got rid of my cable last winter I relied on both these apps for my baseball last summer and they were, I have to say, fantastic.  The At Bat 11 app is available for iphone/ipod/ipad, Blackberry and Android devices - and will apparently feature live video on Android this year.  It's also boasting a new enhanced video library, searchable by player or team, which I'm particularly looking forward to.

MLB.TV is $120 this year for the Premium version, which is, if I remember correctly, the same price as last year.  I like to watch it through the boxee software app - for some reason the picture quality seemed to a bit better than through chrome or firefox.

I hate to ask, because I believe I already know the answer, but are all regular season Jays games still blacked out throughout the country, including on Iphones or other portable devices?

I'd be happy to pay for the service if I could watch Jays games but otherwise, it's worthless to me.

Tell me more about the at bat app ( not much of a description at the app store). So you get live spring training games (video) but in what form is the content during the regular season?

I just got my Roku device in the mail today, ordered so I can watch MLB.tv on my TV. I have watched it on the computer but it just isn't as good as getting it on a big old tv.

The iPhone app includes audio for all games (no blackouts) and every day 1 random game is free to watch (blackouts apply). There are pitch-by-pitch updates much like GameCast on MLB.com, and video highlights are posted during the game (not immediately, but reasonably quickly most of the time). After every game a "condensed game" video is posted which is equal parts cool and strange - it runs through the entire game in 12 minutes or so, showing you every hit and several of the outs... but with only the sounds of the stadium, no commentary at all.

Last year live video for all postseason games was included, tho I wonder if that was not intentional - if memory serves they didn't advertize it, and they were selling a different postseason app.

Even for blackout games - very shortly after the game you can watch it - as an "archived" game.

fyi: I've subscribed again to get all the radio broadcasts (just $20 for the whole year, no blackouts).  Ref: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/gameday_audio.jsp

I might need to use it more this year since I've no idea if there will be an over-the-air radio broadcast serving Ottawa this year.

Anyone have both the iPad and iPod versions (2011 or 2011)? I know the iPad version has more features, but the iPod version would be more compact for catching games on the go. Do the features outweigh the convenience?

I'm torn between the two. Advice?

I noticed that there is a site called usvideo.ca that allows a Canadian user to bypass country-specific restrictions for online content. I'm tempted to use the free trial to test drive MLB.TV and see if I can stream Jays games.

Watching the Jays is basically all that's stopping me from cutting the cable at this point.

Is this something new for the Idevices? Condensed games have always been free for PC users, as far as I know.. When I didn't have enough time in the morning last season, I just watched those instead of the full game (or just the Jays batting).. (I live in the PST, so I rarely get to watch live games - usually it's the next morning while exercising, etc..)

Condensed games on iDevices aren't necessarily new, VWFan - I've only had the iPhone for 1 year. And I never looked for them on the PC.

If Blue Jay fans want to watch the March 18 game vs. the Yankees, or the March 28 game vs. the Red Sox, don't bother thinking you get tickets to watch them in Dunedin. All of the tickets for both of these games have been gone for a while. I imagine that both games will be 100% Yankee or Red Sox crowds, and that almost all the tickets for these games were sold to bus tour companies selling Yankees Red Sox packages.

I couldn't be more sick of the Yankees, the Red Sox, and the absurd 'Buy the Playoffs' AL East. When you can't buy a single to a spring training game in Dunedin more than a month ahead because Red Sox fans have bought them all, it feels kind of pointless. Makes you feel like a fan of the Washington Generals.

So our home games on march 18th & 28th could have a majority of visitor fans. It should be interesting listening to the games on the radio with this kind of odd attendance.

And the thing about spring training road games is that they are not very enjoyable since most of the players you'd want to see don't even make the trip. I have seen teams purporting to be the Blue Jays play at Houston and Atlanta's parks, but they weren't terribly Blue Jayish.

Can't believe MLB is charging for the audio of spring training games. Checked out the lite version of the at-bat app... it's next to useless, just linescores, no streaming audio of spring games.

If you buy the full up does it also include a subscription to gameday audio on your PC?
