It's 2-14 on the calendar, #2 and #14 are the numbers John Buck wore in his career with the Royals, the catcher is always #2 on the scorecard and Buck continued to wear #14 with the Jays in 2010. Good enough reasons for Buck to make the Valentine's Day edition of the POTD.

Buck had a rough April as evidenced by this swing and a miss against the White Sox on Jackie Robinson Day at the Dome April 15. His first homer as a Jay came during the April 12 home opener when he crushed one to the fourth deck in left field but his batting average was as low as .155 on April 28.
By May 16, Buck's bat warmed up to a season high .610 slugging percentage. His bases clearing double against Texas was the difference as the Jays beat the Rangers 5-2 at the Dome.
Buck watches a foul ball off the bat of future National League Rookie of the Year Buster Posey during June 20 action against the San Francisco Giants at the Dome.
Buck switches baseballs with the home plate umpire. He had three hits against the Giants this day but the future World Series champions avoided a three game sweep with a 9-6 win.
Buck shown on JaysVision during pre-game warmups at the Dome June 24. Despite getting top billing here, Buck had the night off as Jose Molina donned the tools of ignorance instead.

Buck drains a three from downtown! Raptors win! Raptors win! The Rangers' Andres Blanco looks less than impressed.

Buck lifts his mask as the Jays celebrate a 7-2 win over Texas. Adam Lind follows Buck while manager Cito Gaston congratulates lefty Brian Tallet for wrapping things up on the mound.
John Buck enjoyed a career season in 2010 with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 30 year-old native of Kemmerer, Wyoming batted .281/.314/.489 with 25 doubles, 20 home runs and 66 runs batted in. The 6-foot-3 right-handed hitter had some big games in a Toronto uniform. He had a three homer game against Oakland at the Dome April 29 and also had a pair of two-homer games May 7 in Chicago against the White Sox and June 14 in San Diego. He hit his 20th homer in the Jays home finale against the New York Yankees September 29. Buck also had a trio of doubles against Oakland at the Dome May 2 and in Kansas City July 20. He also had four hits against the Red Sox in Fenway Park during a 16-2 victory August 20. The common thread from all of these games? All Blue Jays victories!
The cherry on top for Buck (roundabout Buckcherry reference for you!) was a spot on the American League squad for the 2010 All-Star Game in Anaheim. He doubled off St. Louis righty Adam Wainwright in his first at-bat and was robbed of a single in his second at-bat thanks to David Ortiz, who was forced out at second base on a throw from right field.
"The Buck" may have stopped in Toronto but the Jays certainly got their money's worth out of the veteran backstop in 2010 on a one year deal that paid him $2 million. He parlayed his career year into a three year contract with the Florida Marlins worth $18 milion. We'll see if he can "buck the trend" of regression to the mean as he looks to repeat his 2010 success with the Fish.
