Or is it Mc on the way Bc (to Toronto).  The league Transactions for 8/29 show Mike McCoy has been recalled to Toronto.

The question for this thread is who from New Hampshire is on the way to take the slot at Las Vegas opened up by McCoy's recall?

My money is on Diaz.  Las Vegas could use the AAA experience, defence and he can play 3rd, 2nd and short.  And in a pinch, he's played outfield too.

But it could be Infielder Callix Crabbe who has experience at AAA and goes by the best name in baseball.  He can play 3rd, 2nd, short and even outfield as well.

Don't count out the Pride of British Columbia, Bowman, who is roughed up right now.  Is he done ailing enough to get the call to AAA?  He's most experienced at 3rd only.  Best hitter of the bunch.

Or is time for shortstop A-Hech to get the call to Las Vegas before he goes to the show in September?  He's certainly shaken off his beginner's jitters since moving to AA.

And will the move deprive New Hampshire of a good infielder for the Eastern League playoffs or will he be back for the championship series with the Fisher Cats?

What say you, you Bauxites?

Can only hope it's Crabbe, instantly the greatest name in MLB history, as noted in this old Hall of Names thread.

As for the Mc/Mac name division -- yeah, I think you have to go with some form of Mc ... Doesn't Johnny McDonald already own copyright on all the Blue Jay Mac patents?

I'd like to see Hechavarria or Bowman promoted, but I suspect it will be Diaz because the Jays don't seem to make any major promotions at this stage of the year, with the minor-league seasons all winding down.

Can we sign a minor league free agent or trade for a player to fill the slot (Maybe a Adams, Thigpen or Phillips?) Also, Are Merchan or Ebarb at Dunedin senior enough to be promoted?

Hech has proven that he cant hit at A+, or AA, why on earth would you promote him to AAA?

From the guy who thought Drabek didn't deserve a September callup.

Eastern League Pitcher of the Year.

Maybe the few numbers you're looking at don't tell the whole tale? Just putting it out there.

He has an obp of 271 for the season with very little power, poor bb/k ratio, rushin him more is setting him up for even more failure.
Comparing him to john diaz, at least diaz can walk, with a decent obp, send diaz to AAA.

CSHunt68 - Sunday, August 29 2010 @ 01:21 PM EDT (#221648) #
How is setting him up for failure (assuming that's true) deleterious to his development?
I think he should be pushed, as the Jays obviously think he has a big upside.
CSHunt68 - Sunday, August 29 2010 @ 01:30 PM EDT (#221649) #
Besides, he was significantly better at AA than A+ - .309 to .217 OBP. That's improvement.
Again, if you think the few numbers you've seen tell the whole tale ...

The news is that Morrow is being shut down for the year after his next start. Not surprising giving his previous year's innings. I'm guessing we'll see one of Hill or Richmond up soon to take the spot.

Hill is on the DL, no idea for what though.

Hill and Richmond have been bouncing on and off the DL all summer. Makes me wonder if something fishy is going on. There is Mills too, although I'm less excited about seeing him again.

I don't know what's fishy about pitchers getting hurt. Especially pitchers who have been hurt before. Anyway, Richmond's pitching now and (probably much more relevant) he's already on the 40 man roster. Which, at the moment, is full. So is Mills, and Luis Perez, and J.J. Reyes.

My guess is that Mills gets Morrows spot and Richmond stays in AA to help them through the playoffs

John Lott tweeted that AA told him general rule is 20% jump in IP over previous year for a young starter.

As applied to Drabek, he's fine through the end of the AA playoffs but Stewart is there already, he might be done after today. if so, the NH team will be seriously short-handed if Richmond is promoted.

I look for Richmond to step in for Cecil (who has about five starts left under the 20% rule) and pick up his last couple starts.

I was thinking we'd see Hill but I can't find any info about what's wrong with him.

As for Drabek, at +20% he has about 30-32 IP left, which works out to about 5 or 6 starts. He'll use three of them if NH advances to the championship seires, but if he were to come to the majors on the heels of that (maybe to shift the jays to a six man rotation for a couple of weeks?) he would potentially get three starts and that would completely max him out and I don't know if the Jays will do that when they have other options. At one time Blair said they wanted to shut him down around 160 IP which never made any sense given he went 158 last year. But whether that's an indication they will baby him or not I can't say. They did skip a start with him recently to make sure he could last so I'm inclined to think it's at least on their minds.

I no longer rule out the possibility they might call him for a couple of starts though, especially since it turns out he'll have to go on the 40 this winter anyway.

As for the discussion of Adeiny - the playoffs matter here too - the Jays would I think prioritize NH's playoff run over AH getting a handful of AAA at bats.

Johnny Mac slugged his 4th HR today... perhaps he has turned a corner and will become the 3B for the future. He has 4 HR in about 100 AB, prorating to 20-25 HR in a full season. He is also hitting for better average, and .370 in August. With Encarnacion injured, he has the ability to solidify his grasp on the future starting 3B job. With excellent defense and emerging power, he could be a force to be reckoned with and an important piece in our future plans/world series wins.

Sarcasm, one assumes.

But I do think JM does deserve credit for making the most of his minuscule playing time.

Johnny Mac getting home runs I list under the 'blind squirrel finding nuts' category. He is into his 30's thus the odds of him suddenly figuring out how to hit is extremely low. If he was 22 then I'd consider it, but not now. He is a great backup as he doesn't complain and is solid on defense. IMO that is all you need out of a bench guy. It would be nice to have someone on the bench who was all bat, no field as well but this works.
Magpie - Sunday, August 29 2010 @ 08:24 PM EDT (#221665) #
It's pretty hard to keep a guy on the bench who is all bat and no field today, because the bench has become so small. A team would have to abandon the modern practise of carrying seven relief pitchers. God forbid anyone should do that.

Anybody still eager to see Adam Lind at first base for 145 games next year? I hear the pitchers are already getting up a petition....

[McDonald] is into his 30's thus the odds of him suddenly figuring out how to hit is extremely low.

True indeed, but some marginal improvement is possible. Exhibit A would be Buck Martinez himself, who was talking on the broadcast about how Gaston has tried to get McDonald to try to pull the ball from time to time instead of submitting meekly to his destiny as a feeble slap hitter. In his first 12 years as a major leaguer, Buck Martinez never slugged better than .398 and and in those 12 years he hit a grand total of 27 HRs. And then at age 33 and 34, platooning with Ernie Whitt, Buck suddenly hit 10 HRs each year, and slugged .423 and .452. As I recall, Bill James wrote at the time regarding Martinez that "either the Blue Jays have a hell of a hitting coach or they're doing something funny to the bats."
