Randy Boone retired the last 25 New Britain hitters in order and David Cooper and Eric Thames homered to lead the Fisher Cats to victory. The Doubledays put on a hitting display behind Misual Diaz and won handily. Newly drafted Shane Opitz paced the baby Jays to the win. The other three teams lost on a .500 night on the farm.
Shawn Hill pitched well, he gave up three runs in six innings but left the game trailing 3-0. The lead off hitter of the game took Hill deep and the lead off hitter in the second inning did the same. The 51's tried to mount a comeback in the 8th and 9th but Merkin Valdez was hit for three runs in the eighth.
For the 51's Brad Emaus drove in a run in the eighth, Aaron Mathews hit a solo home run in the ninth, and the always exciting bases loaded walk scored the third run. The 51's did have the bases loaded and no-one out in the ninth but Taylor Tankersley got the last three outs without allowing another run to score.
Mathews and Raul Chavez had two hits each.
New Britain scored a run in the first inning with a double and a triple but then Randy Boone retired the next 25 hitters in a row. Boone had a blip in the middle of the season when he badly sprained his ankle, but his recent form has him back to the good results he showed in the early part of the season.
New Hampshire scored early, in the first Darin Mastroianni doubled, Callix Crabbe singled him home. Crabbe later scored on a sac fly and then David Cooper hit a two run home run. The Fisher Cats added a run in each of the 4th, 6th and 7th innings. The 7th inning run was Eric Thames' 23rd home run.
Cooper was 3-4, Adam Loewen and Matt Liuzza had two hits each.
Chuck Huggins did not have a good start, he gave up nine hits and five runs in four innings.
The Jays hitters had six hits, two each for Yan Gomes and Brian Van Kirk. One of Gomes' hits was a home run accounting for Dunedin's only run.
South Bend scored single runs in seven of their nine innings. Matt Fields gave up five of them, Matt Barnes and Casey Beck gave up one each.
Lansing scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to make the game appear closer than it was. Lansing scored a run in the fourth, KC Hobson doubled and Justin Jackson had an rbi single. Jake Marisnick hit his first Midwest League home run in the eighth and Balbino Fuenmayor hit a two run shot in the ninth.
Hobson was the only Lugnut with two hits.
Auburn broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the fifth and then tacked on four more in the sixth to stretch the lead. The Doubledays got things started when Oliver Dominguez hit a two run home run in the second inning. Auburn batted around in the fifth to score their five runs and six Doubledays had a hit. In the sixth Gustavo Pierre had a two run triple, Carlos Perez singled him home and Marcus Knecht added an rbi double.
Misual Diaz made his second start for Auburn, five innings, five hits, two runs and five K's.
Jonathan Jones, Pierre, Perez, Matt Nuzzo and Dominguez had two hits each.
The Jays banged out ten hits in a relatively strong offensive game. The Jays were hitless until the fourth when Pierce Rankin singled and later scored when Shane Opitz also singled. In the fifth the Jays put three runs on the board, one scored on an error, Kellen Sweeney tripled in a second run, and Rankin doubled in the third run. Opitz then doubled and scored in the sixth and drove in the sixth run in the seventh. Opitz was 3-4 with a run scored and two RBI's. Rankin and Matt Abraham also had two hits.
Tyler Powell, freshly demoted from Auburn, started and pitched five shutout innings. The Jays relievers gave up one unearned run over the last four innings.
