These types of scorelines shouldn't be too much of a surprise to anyone at this point. Marc Rzepczynski was the victim in this one, going 5 plus and allowing 9 hits, 4 walks and 6 runs. He also struck out 7 and got 6 of his 7 outs in play on the ground, so there is some sort of lining here. Josh Roenicke equalled him in runs allowed, but he only made it through 1.2 innings. Much of the damage could have been averted if not for a Manny Mayorson error with 2 outs which helped 4 unearned runs cash.
Brian Jeroloman got his first start for the recently freed JP Arencibia, and didn't disapoint, singling and doubling while scoring and driving in a run (he did strike out twice though.) Mike Jacobs continued his good start to his Jays career, going 3 for 5 with a double and 2 runs batted in. AAAA players Mike McCoy and Jarrett Hoffpauir both singled and walked, as did Manny Mayorson, who scored twice, while Jason Lane's only knock was a solo shot.
Richmond 10 at New Hampshire 0
New Hampshire fell behind early and never recovered against the visiting Richmond Flying Squirrels. An error allowed the first run to score, but Richmond gave it back as Adam Loewen nailed a runner at the plate on a throw from CF in the second, though by that point it was 3-0 Flying Squirrels. Things went downhill from there. New Hampshire could muster only 5 hits, all singles, and drew nary a walk. Randy Boone gave up the first five runs in his five innings (7 H, 2 BB, 2 K) while Clint Everts put up almost an identical line in his 2 innings (6 H 2 BB 2 K) in allowing the second 5 runs. Eric Thames had one of the singles and was promptly caught stealing, and the Cats had one at bat with a runner in scoring position all game. They were unsuccessful, if you couldn't tell.
Palm Beach at Dunedin (Postponed)
Fort Wayne outhit Lansing 17 to 9 and outscored them 11 to 5 in a game that was actually tied after 6. Thats when Brian Slover and Nestor Molina took over though. Slover allowed 4 of the first 5 batters to reach in the 7th, and Molina allowed 4 of his 6 batters to reach, making the score 11-4 and putting the game out of reach. Matt Fields wasn't much better starting, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks in 5, whiffing 4. AJ Jiminez and Ryan Schimpf both had 2 hits, with a double and triple respectively, while Kevin Ahrens continued his strong recent play with a single and a walk, driving in 2. Sean Ochinko also walked twice.
Auburn scored early (3 in the first) and late (4 total runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th,) and it was enough for the affiliates to scrape out their first win. Jonathan Jones, Carlos Perez and Andy Fermin each had 2 hits, with Fermin and Jones walking and doubling (Jones also stole a base). Oliver Dominguez and Marcus Knecht both singled, the former walking once and the later twice. Yudelmis Hernandez also walked and singled. Andrew Hutchinson started and had a rare off night, giving up 3 Vermont runs, though he was unable to get out of the 3rd. His final line was 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. The pen was strong in relief.
GCL Pirates 0 GCL Jays 0 (Suspended)
The Pirates and Jays were scoreless after the Pirates batted in the 6th, due to what I'm assuming was rain. Nicholas Purdy got the start for the GCL Jays and was great, allowing only 2 hits and a walk in 5 innings while whiffing 6. Purdy has had a strong year, striking out 42 and walking 8 in 39.1 innings. He is Canadian, and as far as I can tell was signed by the Jays in the offseason; he is 21 years old and this is his professional debut season. Bryson Namba had 2 of the Jays 5 hits.
