Myers hits while allowing only a single run.  Winner Joel Carreno (7-5) pitched just 2 innings and gave up Ft. Myers only score.  Starter Chad Beck and relievers Frank Gailey and Matt Daly turned scoreless performances in their collective 3.0 IP.

Dunedin’s scoring was provided by a multi-hit night from Ryan Goins (2 for 4, 2B, RBI) and a single from big Mike McDade (1 for 3, RBI).  Two hits from Justin McClanahan (2 for 3, 2B) and a single from Welinton Ramirez (1 for 3) rounded out the batting for Dunedin.

3 wins for the 6 affiliates that played isn't a bad night for the farm.

Another interesting arm may be Daniel Barnes who was drafted this year in the 35th round out of Princeton. While he will be turning 21 in October (a little old for the Gulf Coast league perhaps), he has put up some shiny numbers.

Over 21.2 innings pitched, he has a 0.42 ERA and has given up just 13 hits and 4 walks, along with 34 K's and a .167 opp batting average.

KC Hobson hit a 2 run shot in the eighth as the Baby Jays rallied for a 4-3 win today.  Marisnick (who is off to a good start in the GCL) and Crouse also homered.  Syndergaard threw 4 innings, allowing one unearned run.

Anthony Gose going to the Jays organization? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5420095

As part of what deal, I wonder...

Gose is a speedy centerfielder with strike zone issues.  He's in the FSL at age 19.

MatO - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 04:26 PM EDT (#219410) #
Gose will be 20 in a couple of weeks.  It's not often you see a 27 in the caught-stealing department.  Don't see how Houston and the Jays have a fit unless it's a minor leaguer for minor leaguer type deal or a three-way.
MatO - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 04:34 PM EDT (#219411) #
Multiple sources are confirming it's done.  Not sure if they're not just quoting each other though.

Syndergaard with 4IP pitched today in GCL game. 2H, 1ER, 0ER , 2BB, 0K's. Now has an 0.82 ERA in 11 IP. Promising start thus far.

Marisnick was also 2/4 with a HR. Now with a stat line of .293/.373/.474.

No rumor involving the Astros can be a bad thing... right?

Wow. That's all I have to say.

Unless it's Brett Wallace which Rosenthal is reporting. Jerry can't wait to use the "And There She GOSE!!!" call.

Wonder if the writing was on the wall when the Jays suddenly decided to get Lind working at 1st base after avoiding it last year and early this year.
Alex Obal - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 04:51 PM EDT (#219419) #
Wow.

Yup.

Not gonna pick a side on this until I learn more about Gose. He does have 15 assists as a centerfielder this year.

LouisvilleJayFan - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 04:52 PM EDT (#219420) #
Interesting that at a time when most think the Jays are going to be racking up prospects, the first two trades they make this deadline season are getting rid of them. Granted Gose is somewhat exciting (in a little more than Kenny Wilson/lot more than Eric Eiland type way).
codyla - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 04:54 PM EDT (#219421) #

Alex Anthopolous please tell me that this isn't true.  We have all been looking forward to seeing Wallace in the big leagues for so long and now he is gonna swipe him right from underneath us.  I don't think Anthony Gose has even been that impressive.  I have liked every deal AA has made so far, but if this one goes through i'm really not gonna like it. I hope this doesn't mean Overbay will be extended.

The only thing i can see is Lind playing first and possibly Snider to DH ~ or Edwin to DH and Bautista back to third and Snider back to the outfield.

Scouting report of Anthony Gose from the BA Prospect Handbook:

Gose had as much arm strength as any high school lefthander this decade, reaching 97 mph at times, but had no desire to pitch as a professional. He also ha da shoulder problem as a senior, so the Phillies popped him as an outfielder and paid him a $772,000 bonus. His tools were evident in 2009, as managers rated him the best and fastest baserunner, best defensive outfielder and most exciting player in the South Atlantic League. Gose earns 70 grades on the 20-80 scouting scale for three tools: his arm, his center-field defense and his speed. He led the minor leagues with 76 steals in 96 attempts, and he'll be even more dangerous as he gets on base more often and refines his basestealing instincts. His arm helped him rack up 13 assists, third among SAL outfielders. Despite hitting just two homers in 2009, he has solid-average raw power. His weakest tool is his bat, and Gose will need time to rework his offensive approach and improve his pitch recognition. His power gets him in trouble as he takes wild haks at times. He gives away too many at-bats and lacks a two-strike approach. The Phillies believe in Gose and will give him plenty of time to learn and improve, but he may need 2,000 minor league at-bats. Some scouts liken his offensive upside to that of Carl Crawford, and Gose would have more defensive value. He'll advance to high Class A in 2010.

It can't be a straight trade. It must be Gose plus a player for Wallace.

The one bright spot is the Jays are targeting more skilled players. That was an issue with the JP era.
ComebyDeanChance - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 05:01 PM EDT (#219424) #
mlb radio reports the deal. Also an interview with Chuck LaMar where he says they liked the outfielder they got in the Lee deal (Tyson Gillies) more than Gose. Wallace has done a lot of travelling now for someone who's not made the majors. I suspect that the Jays may wish someday that they had held onto Michael Taylor.

I suspect that AA found Wallace's inflated LV numbers uninspiring.

codyla - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 05:09 PM EDT (#219425) #
I can't see Anthony Gose having any better potential than Michael Taylor ~ and taylor is much closer to the big leagues. To me this begs the question, Why not just hole onto Michael Taylor?
PeteMoss - Thursday, July 29 2010 @ 05:12 PM EDT (#219426) #
Gose has much better potential than Taylor... he led the minors in steals and has shown some sembelence of power.  He's been young for where's he played as well.  Odd that he's become such a terrible base stealer all of the sudden this year though.

That gives us three high ceiling, 19 year-old CFs of the future - Gose, Michael Crouse and Jake Marisnick. Crouse upped his OPS to 1.020 in GCL action today.
