It was a big night on the farm. Tyler Pastornicky, Eric Thames and Zach Stewart got the stars but many other baby Jays had big nights.
Tyler Pastornicky had six RBI's with a home run and a bases loaded double to lead Dunedin to victory. Eric Thames had four hits as New Hampshire won game one against their rival for the division lead. Henderson Alvarez and Zach Stewart pitched well in those wins. Lansing scored three runs in the eleventh to win. The GCL Jays win was a team effort but Jake Marisnick hit his first professional home run.
Auburn led going to the ninth but lost on two wild pitches. Las Vegas were bombed but JP Arencibia had three hits including his 16th home run.
Lance Broadway gave up five runs in five innings and Sacramento scored six runs off Merkin Valdez as they cruised to the win. For Las Vegas JP Arencibia went 3-4 and is hitting over .400 for his last ten games. Brian Dopirak was the other 51 with a multi hit game and he is also warming up, his OPS for June is just over .900.
Brad Emaus had the night off and Brett Wallace had an oh-fer.
The top two teams in the division play a three game series and in game one Zach Stewart faced off against Yankee prospect Andrew Brackman. Stewart delivered a solid start, 6.1 innings pitched, two runs conceded on six hits and two walks, but he recorded eight K's. That gave the hitters something to work with and they chipped away, scoring in five innings.
In the first inning Darin Mastroianni, Manny Mayorson and Shawn Bowman each singled to put up the first run. Danny Perales homered in the second inning for run number 2. In the third Eric Thames singled and scored on a wild pitch. In the seventh Mayorson walked and Thames doubled him in. Finally in the ninth Mastroianni was hit by a pitch. He stole second, Thames singled him in and Bowman doubled in Thames. Bubbie Buzachero pitched the last 2.2 innings.
Thames was so excited to face a right handed pitcher he went 4-5. Mayorson and Bowman had two hits each.
Henderson Alvarez was back on the mound and he did give up a run in the first inning but he also struck out the side. Daytona hit a two run home run off Alvarez in the second inning but the runs were unearned due to an error by Hechavarria. Alvarez kept Daytona off the board from then on. Alvarez went six innings, gave up six hits but had seven K's.
Dunedin tied the game in the fifth when Tyler Pastornicky hit a three run home run, his sixth. In the sixth Mark Sobolewski put the Jays ahead with a double and later Pastornicky came to bat with the bases loaded and cleared them with a double. Travis D'Arnaud then singled in Pastornicky. Pastornicky singled leading off the eighth and scored on a ground out.
Dunedin had 14 hits. Pastornicky, D'Arnaud and Sobolewski had three each, John Tolisano and Wellinton Ramirez had two. Adeiny Hechavarria went 0-3 but did walk.
Dayton 6 Lansing 7 - 11 innings
Lansing scored twice in the ninth to extend the game and three in the eleventh to win. The Lugnuts went to the bottom of the eleventh down by two runs. With one out Kevin Nolan singled, Eric Eiland walked. With two outs Ryan Goins singled to drive in one run. Kevin Ahrens grounded to third but the third baseman made a throwing error to load the bases. Karim Turkamani, in his first at-bat of the game, singled in two runs for the win.
Dave Sever started for Lansing and was touched for a two run home run in the second inning and a third run in the fifth on three hits. Sever pitched five and two thirds and gave up six hits.
The Lugnuts had only one hit through six and and a third. But then Justin Jackson singled, as did Balbino Fuenmayor, then Eric Eiland tripled in both runners. In the eighth Dayton hit a solo home run off Matt Wright to get the lead back up to two runs. That run was critical because in the ninth the Lugnuts were two runs down. With two outs Balbino walked and Eiland was hit by a pitch. Kenny Wilson singled to drive in one run. Ryan Goins singled to drive in the tying run.
Aaron Loup came on to pitch the tenth and escaped despite giving up two hits. But in the eleventh Dayton had back to back doubles off Loup and scored two runs.
Ryan Goins was the only Lugnut with two hits.
This was a tight game. Williamsport scored first and Auburn scored twice to take a 2-1 lead to the ninth inning. But Williamsport got to reliever Drew Permison for two runs in that ninth. The lead off walk was bad, the follow-up single was was worse, but the two wild pitches that each allowed a run to score were really bad.
Daniel Webb started for Auburn and pitched five innings, the only run he allowed was in that fifth inning. He allowed three hits.
Auburn tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, Marcus Knecht led off with a double and scored when Yeico Aponte singled with two outs. In the sixth Oliver Dominguez singled and also scored on a two out single, this one by John Roberts. Auburn loaded the bases in the ninth but couldn't score.
Carlos Perez, Aponte and Knecht had two hits each.
The Jays scored in eight of the nine innings. Ten Jays had hits. Carlos Ramirez and Pierce Rankin led the hitters with two hits each, including a double each. Rankin drove in three runs. Jake Marisnick homered and walked. Ronald Melendez and Michael Crouse each had a triple.
Four pitchers took the mound for the Jays, Bryan Longpre got the win.
