Our farm boys managed only one win in five games Saturday Night.  Las Vegas managed the only win in the system besting Colorado Springs 7-2.  New Hampshire, Dunedin, Lansing and Auburn all lost, for varying reasons.  But generally, our pitching gave up too many runs and our hits were too spread out to make a difference.  Funny how that works.

Las Vegas 7  Colorado Springs  2

Sean Henn got the win tonight, bringing his record to 2-2.  He delivered 4.2 innings of 2 hit ball.  Rommie Lewis had a rough 2nd inning, but pitched two other scoreless innings.  The Las Vegas infield of Eamus, Diaz, Hoffpauir and Wallace managed four double plays on the evening, disappointing the 5,026 fans who attended the game in Colorado Springs.

Brett Wallace hit one of his “Wallace Whoppers” a 2 run HR after Jonathan Diaz walked in the first inning.  It was Wallace’s 12 dinger of the year.  Wallace added a double and a single, along with another RBI for good measure on the evening.  Adam Calderone added a solo round tripper, his 5th  HR of the season.  Chris Lubanski had a pair of hits, a 2B and 3B with 2 RBIs.  Brad Emaus added a single, bringing his batting average to .357 in his 16 games at AAA.

Erie 7   New Hampshire 2

It was Halloween Night promo at New Hampshire and it was indeed scary for the Fisher Cats and the 7,617 fans who attended.  Zach Stewart suffered the loss (4-2) with 6.2 innings pitched, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) and 7 hits.  Three other earned runs were allowed by Potts and one by Bongiovanni.

The Fisher Cats bats didn’t deliver the tricks or treats required, producing only two runs while spacing out 8 hits for the evening.   The pride of New Westminster, BC, Sean Bowman had one RBI on a single bringing in Darin Mastroianni who singled earlier.  Manny Mayorson and Danny Perales had two hits each.   Brian Jeroloman added a double and David Cooper managed a single.

Erie scored their 7 runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 7th innings on 10 hits, including 2 doubles and a 2 out 3 run home run by Ciriaco in the 7th off Potts.

Daytona 3  Dunedin 2

2,768 hometown fans saw Dayton best Dunedin in 11 innings with Chad Beck (2-2) taking the loss with only .2 IP., and Chuck Huggins, allowing 2 earned runs and 3 hits.   Dunedin’s Frank Gailey and Alan Farina combined for 4 hitless innings.  Beck’s downfall came on a walk off single by Daytona’s Mark Reed in the 11th.

Mike McDade continued his terror with the lumber by crushing his 14th HR of the season, a 2 out 2 run blast in the first inning after Travis d’Arnaud had singled.  That accounted for Dunedin’s scoring for the night.  Adeiny Hechavarria and Welinton Ramirez  each added singles for the rest of Dunedin’s paltry 4 hit total.

The struggling Hechavarria, who has been moved from lead off hitter to # 8 in the line up, ended a four game drought at the plate in the 11th inning, getting his first hit in his last 20 AB.  His current line is now .206/229/301/530 with an 18% BB average (4 BB and 22 SO).

Lake County 6  Lansing 2

Ryan Shopshire was tagged for 8 of Lake County’s 9 hits in 7 innings.  He was tagged for the loss too and is now 4-6 on the year. The 6,948 who attended saw Lake County put the game away with two runs scored in the 4th and the 5th innings.   Dunedin’s 8 hits were spread out and produced on 2 runs for the evening.

The Dunedin 2 RBI’s were provided  in the second inning by Sean Ochinko and Ryan Schimpf.  Oshinko had 3 hits with an RBI double and Schimpf earned his RBI with a Sac Fly.  Kevin Ahrends had two doubles and A.J. Jiminez added a double as well.  Kevin Nolan singled.

Justin Jackson, recently moved down to Lansing from Dunedin after recovering from an injury, came up 0 for 5 with 3 SO this evening.  He has been struggling since arriving at Lansing with 3 hits for 19 AB, including 8 strike outs.

Batavia 7  Auburn 5

1,424 fans saw Auburn’s second New York Penn short season game with Batavia coming out on top.  Dayton Marze (0-1) took the loss for Auburn.

Auburn scattered 9 hits.  Oliver Dominquez had three hits including a double and Randy Schwartz had two hits with a double as well.  Gustavo Pierre hit a triple.  John Roberts had three RBI’s with an RBI Single in the 4th inning, and the other two came on a single in the 8th.

Three Stars:

3rd Star -  Sean Ochinko, 3 hits, 2B, RBI

2nd Star - Mike McDade, HR, 2 RBI

1st Star - Brett Wallace, 3 hits, HR, 2b, 3 RBIs

I think it is more important to note Gustavo Pierre had a walk, more so than him having a triple.

Also just as a note, the AA box score is showing the game from the 18th and not the 19th. =)

Sorry about the AA Box score.  Couldn't get it to populate with the correct URL from MILB.com.  Still unable to do so.  Will keep trying.

On yesterday's minor-league thread, WillRain said the Jays traded an AAA journeyman to the Mets.  But he didn't identify the journeyman.  Who was it?

Alan Farina's numbers since June 1:

25.1 ip, 9 hits, 1 er, 5 walks, 37 k's --- i'd say it's time to bump him up.

Sneeps,   ditto on Alan Farina.

I have seen him pitch a few times lately in Dunedin.  His numbers do not lie.  He seems to be a real force on the mound.  His K's are not only numerous, they're aggressive and dramatic.  To the delight of the home fans, he really goes after the hitters.

Farina has always been talented with great stuff, but he's been so injury prone that he's lost so much development time with us.  I'm sure we'll see a fair amount of promotions at mid-season, it's so hard for us to be patient as fans isn't it? =)

Yes, Padilla and in my Loewen love, I completely forgot that they had demoted Jeremy Reed so there wasn't really a new opening there.

Another move today - Encarnacion to Vegas, Huffpauir recalled.

Do I recall correctly that some of you had expressed reservations about Huff's defense at 3b?

Anyway, he'd be a pretty interesting 2-hole hitter but I don't see Cito doing that.

Here's a victory for the Jays: 13th selection LHP Chris Sale just signed for slot with the White Sox. His agency conceded they could've held out for more money, but felt that getting him into the system now -- and, significantly, teasing a potential late-summer call-up -- was a greater priority and better the player than waiting for more early bonus money.

C'mon, Deck. Let's get you into a Doubledays uniform!

It wouldn't surprise me if he signed early (which doesn't sound likely) they send him to straight to Dunedin.
