The world's politest fantasy league is back.

Welcome to another year of the Batter's Box Fantasy League.

Who's With Us?

We are very close to having our full allotment of owners for 2010. Alomar has started trading feverishly already, the Barfield owners are sorting out roster assignments and will start trading this weekend.  I am still waiting to hear from 3 owners in the Carter division. Please get in touch ASAP.

R Billie, TheyCallMeMorty and FourSeamer this means you!

I'm going to have to start assuming you aren't returning if I haven't heard in the next few days.

BBFL Preseason Schedule

Rule proposals and discussion will run from now until next weekend:

Now -> Feb 15    Ownership/Roster Decisions
Now -> Feb 19    Rule Change Poposals/Discussion
Feb 20 -> Feb 26    Rule Voting
Now/asap -> Mar 12     Off Season Trading Window
Mar 12            Announce Keepers
Mar 19            Keeper Final Deadline
Mar 24/25            Draft

The moment we get the Carter division's ownership finalized, I will begin emailing owners to match owners with orphaned rosters. In essence, demoted teams choose first (in order of 2007 finish), then promoted teams, then owners promoted via attrition. Owners who do not respond promptly will be passed over and may have rosters assigned to them. See the BBFL constitution for details.  This process will be finished for Barfield this weekend, so get your roster choices to me quickly please, so I don't have to assign you a roster.

Rule Proposal Guidelines

1. One owner proposes a rule change or an addition/adjustment to a current rule.
2. Someone seconds the proposal.
3. The proposal is added to the list. If two or more proposals seem contradictory, I may combine them into a single multiple-choice question at the time of voting (as an example from 2004, we wouldn't have wanted separate proposals on how many teams to relegate). We'll just see how they develop.
4. Before you submit a proposal, please review the constitution to make sure you’re not covering old ground.

Remember, BBFL rules can’t contradict Yahoo. For example, in 2005 the BBFL voted to require 100 or more at-bats to qualify for offensive wins (similar to the 25-inning minimum). I later discovered that Yahoo provided no way to implement that rule, so out it went. Rule changes on in-game play (for example, statistical categories) will take effect this year, but structural changes involving ownership (for example, the ordering system for placing orphaned rosters with new owners) will not take effect until 2011. Put another way, no new rule may take effect before Opening Day.

Also, if a proposed rule would create onerous administrative duties for the commissioner, the commissioner reserves the right to complain incessantly until the rule’s proponents give up.

Please us this thread to announce any rule change proposals or suggest any ideas.

Keeper Announcements
Keeper lists must be in to me by March 12th.  I know this is barely only halfway through spring training so you can change your keepers up until March 19th to account for injuries etc.  I ask them early as I have to enter them all into yahoo which takes some considerable time.  The final deadline is the 19th, to allow everyone a few days prior to the draft to prepare knowing who is and isn't available.

Draft Day
During the past three years, every division has held its draft on the Thursday prior to Opening Day. This year, that will be March 25th, March 24th in Alomar as we draft on a Wednesday - we like to be different. We’ve typically drafted at 9pm EST, rather late for you Easterners but necessary to accommodate those out west.

Waiting List
Interested in playing? The Waiting List is currently empty and we have three potential openings (see above) so drop me a line at bbfl(at)gwynprice.com and there's a good chance we can get you a team this year.

Thanks for the reminder but I think I'll pass this year.

With stat tracker free this year, are you still requiring "plus" membership?

I'd be interested in playing, but have never been able to justify the Yahoo Plus... don't think I ever will.

I thought $6 was a reasonable and justifiable fee for a well-run, competitive, deep-roster pool in which you could take home a t-shirt or a trophy for the championship. That being said, Plus leagues are no longer offered, so welcome aboard. Thanks for taking the time to organize this Gwyn.

I agree I thought $6 was very reasonable for the quality of the league -- on the topic of Yahoo, would there be any inkling to shift over to ESPN? I find their system much better (and my yahoo account already has 4 fantasy leagues attached to it this year).

Hey all - been running a league for over 10 years.  Had quite a bit of turnover this year.

AL 5x5 keeper league, 12 teams.

$100 USD entry fee (no other fees)
14 hitters, 9 pitchers for major league roster
6 rounds for minor league draft.
Must keep 7-15 players each season not including minor leaguers.
No contracts, salaries increase $4 per season
5 owners from Toronto area but auction done online via CBS Sportsline.

Hi Gwyn, I emailed.  I actually want to be in the league but the email that I was using for the league is one I seldom use anymore so I didn't get the notification until today when I happened to check the Batter's Box site and saw this post.

If it's not too late to be in any of the leagues one way or another, please let me know.

I dunno if it's too late to ask for a rule change, but I propose expanding the bench by another roster spot.

As I couldn't get past the waiting list, I've created a league, we can call it the low-A ball BBFL. Open to other waiting listers and current BBFLers who like the variation.

Much the same game but with special tweaks.
1. 16 teams in two division format
2. more roster spots - 12 hitters, 11 pitchers, four bench spots (see below for detail)
3. scoring is H2H, but 5x5 - R, RBI, SB, BA, OPS & W, S, ERA, WHIP, K/BB
