"Double Photo Day December" continues as we profile this fan favourite in our latest visual veduta known as the Batter's Box POTD.

John McDonald mans the hot corner during August 26th action against the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre.  The "Prime Minister of Defence" also spent time at second base and left field in addition to his usual time at short in 2009.

McDonald stands at second after doubling off Seattle's Ryan Rowland-Smith in his final home at-bat of 2009 September 27th.  His leadoff double in the eighth inning ignited a three-run rally to give the Jays a come from behind 5-4 victory against the Mariners.  Seattle second  baseman Matt Tuiasosopo may have sensed a comeback was in the cards as he stares down at the infield dirt.

I took this photo at the time because I thought this would be his final game in a Toronto uniform at Rogers Centre.  Instead, the 35 year-old free agent shortstop recently inked a two year, $3-million dollar deal with Toronto.  Last year, McDonald hit .258/.271/.384 with a career high four homers and 13 runs batted in.  Welcome back, Johnny Mac!
