Honestly, this was depressing to read and write about.  Absolutely nothing of note went on for the affiliates as they picked up one win in five tries.  I'm just writing out the string at this point.

Las Vegas 5    Salt Lake 6

Kevin Howard, Buck Coats, and Jason Lane each had two hits for the 51s while Aaron Mathews drove in a pair.  J.P. Arencibia was 0-for-3 but did manage a walk.

Davis Romero started and was his normally ineffective self allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings.  Dirk Hayhurst took the loss in relief but pitched fairly well regardless.

New Hampshire 4    Trenton 5

The Fisher Cats blew a late 4-2 lead to drop the first half of a doubleheader.  Brad Emaus and Todd Donovan each managed a pair of hits while David Cooper was 0-for-2 but walked twice and scored a run.

Kenny Rodriguez started and went five allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three.  But the normally reliable  Danny Farquhar and Tim Collins conspired to blow things by allowing three runs over the final two frames.  Collins did, of course, strike a batter out.

New Hampshire 7    Trenton 2

The Cats exacted their revenge in the nightcap thanks in large part to a 2-for-3 effort from Nick Gorneault which included a two-run homer and three RBI total.  David Cooper was 0-for-4 but did drive in a pair.  Darin Mastroianni had two hits but somehow didn't steal a base.  Weird.

Nate Starner took the hill and pitched admirably going 5.1 frames and allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out two.  Tryston Magnuson picked up the final five outs allowing just one hit.

Dunedin Blue Jays- Scheduled Day Off.  And right in the middle of a four game series.  Wacky stuff.

Lansing 2    Fort Wayne 3   (13 innings)

Having trouble scoring is nothing new for the Lugnuts but on Sunday they managed just two runs despite knocking out 12 hits.  Wellinton Ramirez continued his hot start to Lo-A with a 3-for-5 night which included two doubles and a walk.  He's now 7-for-13 as a Lugnut.  Other than that, a few guys picked up a few hits but the big news was the combined 17 strikeouts of Lugnut hitters.

Joel Carreno took the hill and managed 6.2 frames allowing just one run on three hits.  He did walk four, though.  Jonas Cuotto took this loss by allowing a run over his two frames.

Mahoning Valley 7    Auburn 3

Might as well finish the day with a loss.  The Doubledays were trounced thanks to shaky performances by three separate pitchers.  Matthew Morgal, Zach Anderson, and Zach Outman each allowed two runs over three, two, and two innings respectively.

At the plate, Sean Ochinko and Eric Eiland each had a pair of hits.  Eiland is now hitting over .200 so there's that.

One Star:

Wellinton Ramirez; 3-for-5, 2 2B, BB

In the double A nightcap, the Fisher Cats did most of the damage (6 ER in 3 innings) off the appropriately-named Trenton starter Jeremy Bleich.

I guess nothing going on in the majors either since the Jays fell out of the race.  Haven't seen an update in awhile.

Balbino had a walk too!

It would be nice to see Ricky Romero win AL Rookie of the Year. I don't know who could challenge him outside of Beckham and Porcello.

The FSL takes a lot of Sundays off.  They also will play the same series in different parks.  I've got a Lakeland Tigers schedule magnet at my desk and for example they will host game 1 and game 3 of a series and travel on the road for game 2.

Romero's main challenger as of today would be Jeff Niemann, whose stats are slightly better.

There's a few rookie pitchers in the same VORP neighborhood right now.

Right, because the voters give a rat's ass about VORP. If the voting ended today it would go Niemann-Romero-Bailey; Porcello likely doesn't have the time left to improve his W-L, but Beckham could pad his counting totals and will get consideration if he's a big factor in a White Sox playoff push.

That wasn't the implication.  It was just a quick way to look at rookie pitchers who might be in the discussion (knowing that BP had sortable stats for rookies).

And really, it'd be more interesting to consider who deserved it rather than figuring out who will end up with the best antiquated stats that people really shouldn't give a rat's ass about.

You know that this site is run by volunteers, right? Your sarcasm might be warranted if you were paying to use it or if somebody somewhere was getting paid to keep it going.

Good things happen when I talk about Balbino. Had a bomb today.

Frankly, I would be far more impressed if Fuenmayor took a walk. A 0.08 BB/K rate is not going to get you to the Majors, even if you hit 30 homers.

I agree. It borders along the side of comedy that he has only eight or nine walks this year.
