The Yankees called up pitcher Josh Towers from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned reliever Mark Melancon. Towers was 4-6 with a 3.42 ERA.
Never give up on a dream, kids.
UPDATED!
Alas for Josh, it was an emergency call-up in the wake of the 15 inning marathon with the Red Sox. In the course of that game, Melancon seems to have irritated everybody by hitting Dustin "Ratboy" Pedroia - the Red Sox, by actually hitting him, and the rest of us by needing two attempts to do so. Josh, as we well recall, would have gotten it right the first time.
At any rate, Towers was a only to be a Yankee for a day. And he was only going to get into the game if something strange happened to C.C. Sabathia. Nothing did, and he'll be on his way again to clear a spot for another ex-Jay, Chad Gaudin. The Yankees will have to DFA him, so Josh can decide how he wants to keep chasing that dream.
San Diego, Josh. Trust me on this.
