The Jays affiliates have had pretty poor results on Friday nights so far this season, so let's take a look and see how they did last night... (Spoiler Alert: It's not pretty)
Tacoma 6 Las Vegas 3
Brian Burres allowed four runs, but just one was earned, over seven innings. He allowed eight hits but struck out nine batters with just one walk. J.P. Arencibia 'the prospect' showed up last night (Remember him?) and went 4-for-4 with a double, solo homer and two runs scored. Travis Snider was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Angel Sanchez went 1-for-3. Brian Dopirak, in his second AAA game, went 0-for-4 with two Ks. Aaron Mathews went 0-for-5 with 3 Ks.
Connecticut 9 New Hampshire 8
A night after looking pretty bad against the Giants' top pitching prospect Madison Bumgarner, the Fisher Cats showed some life against the west coast team's second-best pitching prospect Tim Alderson. The Jays affiliate scored five runs in five innings against Alderson. Fisher Cats starter Luis Perez, though, was also bombed and he allowed eight runs (six earned) in three innings. Leon Boyd picked up the slack and allowed just one run over three innings. Casey Janssen worked a scoreless inning with two Ks. Todd Donovan led the offense with three hits and two runs scored. David Cooper and Darin Mastroianni each had two hits. Jonathan Diaz was 1-for-1 with two walks.
Lakeland 11 Dunedin 8
Vince Bongiovanni had a night to forget. The starter allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.1 innings of work. Boomer Potts' high-A debut did not go well as he allowed two runs in 1.2 innings. Alan Farina also allowed two runs. Offensively, John Tolisano led the way again with two hits, including a double, homer and three RBI. Moises Sierra was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Seam Shoffit went 1-for-1 with a triple, two walks and two runs scored.
Cedar Rapids 5 Lansing 2 (13 innings)
You know it's not going to be a good night when you allow four errors and get just six hits. Luis Fernandez made three of the errors at third base. Brian Van Kirk went 2-for-6. Kenny Wilson was 1-for-6. Tyler Pastornicky was 0-for-6 with three Ks. Starter John Anderson allowed just one hit in six innings and had a no-hitter going for a while. He also struck out six batters. Dustin Antolin struck out four over two innings and allowed one run. Matt Daly worked two scoreless innings before Jonas Cuotto coughed up the game in extra innings.
Brooklyn 1 Auburn 0 (Five innings - Fog)
Evan Crawford allowed the lone run in the game in 4.1 innings of work before it was stopped. He gave up five hits and one walk. Sean Ochinko and Brad Glenn each had one hit a piece. Eric Eiland was 0-for-2 with two Ks.
GCL Phillies 4 GCL Jays 0 (Suspended after 4.2 - rain)
Mercifully this game was stopped early after starter Ryan Shopshire allowed four runs on 12 hits in just 3.2 innings of work. The Jays also managed just two hits - both by Nick Zaleski. Fourth round draft pick Ryan Goins made his debut. You can definitely tell the Jays have yet to sign the top picks from the 2009 draft... these two short-season clubs have been pretty depressing so far.
Three Stars:
3. Brian Burres for one run in seven innings with nine Ks
2. John Tolisano for a double, homer and three RBI
1. John Anderson for allowing just one hit over six innings
Honorable mentions: JP Arencibia and Leon Boyd
