Auburn were no hit through eight and two thirds.  It should have been a complete no-hitter except for an error by Mahoning Valley in the ninth.  But then two singles ruined the moment and the no hitter was gone.  New Hampshire were no hit until the sixth inning and they finished with two hits in eleven innings.  The GCL Jays didn't score until the ninth inning.  Dunedin and Lansing were rained out.  Las Vegas were the exception, they scored twelve runs.  Travis Snider got back in the groove with three hits including a home run and a double.

Las Vegas 12  Reno 9 - 10 innings

Las Vegas jumped out to a 8-4 lead but Reno came back with 4 runs over the last 3 innings to send the game to extra innings.  In the tenth Angel Sanchez led off with a single but that was followed by two outs.  Brett Harper walked and Kevin Howard doubled home the go ahead run.  Aaron Mathews followed with a two run single.  Bubbie Buzachero worked a three up, three down, tenth for the save.  Vegas had scored three runs in botht he second and third innings.  In the second Joe Inglett doubled in two runs while in the third Kevin Howard and Travis Snider homered.  Inglett, Howard and Snider each had three hits.

Fabio Castro started and pitched 6.1 innings.  However he did give up nine hits and three walks as he recorded just one strikeout.

New Hampshire 1  Trenton 2 - 11 innings

New Hampshire didn't have a hit until the sixth inning when David Cooper singled but was thrown out at second.  The Fisher Cats had scored earlier in that inning, Darin Mastroianni walked, stole second and third and scored on a ground out.  The Fisher Cats finished with two hits in eleven innings.

Reidier Gonzalez pitched seven innings and gave up one run on six hits.  The winning run came off Celson Polanco and was unearned.

Lakeland at Dunedin - postponed

Lansing at Quad Cities - postponed

Auburn 1  Mahoning Valley 6

Auburn were no hit through eight innings.  The first hitter of the ninth got out but the next hitter reached on an error.  The third hitter grounded out.  So if not for the error the game would be over and Mahoning Valley would have a no-hitter.  But Chris Hopkins singled and Brad Glenn added an RBI single.  Mahoning Valley won but lost the no-no.  Auburn used five pitchers, the only one who didn't allow a run was catcher Karim Turkamani whpo recorded the final out.

GCL Blue Jays 1  GCL Braves 13

Each of the four Jays pitchers gave up some runs.  Catcher Henry Rodriguez went 2-3 with a double and a home run.

While drafting guys who are more difficult to sign may be the way to go it sure makes following Auburn a heck of a lot less interesting.

The previous comment brings up a question. If guys dont sign untill the deadline of August 15th, what will be done with them? Do they send them to short season for two weeks, or just wait untill next year to make their debuts? If anyone with a little knowledge on the situtation could fill me in it would be appreciated.

Given you get just a few years before they have to be added to the 40 man once they start playing I'd hold off until the instructional league in the fall if at all possible thus gaining an extra year before options have to be used to demote them, especially for high schoolers.

I'm not sure about that.  According to this site the clock starts ticking the day you sign your first professional contract not when you begin play.

Thanks Mat, I always figured it started with the first game played but very easily can be (and am) wrong.

Toronto doesn't have a single player in the Baseball America's Midseason Top 50 Prospects. Not that surprising, but still kind of depressing.
