Joe Inglett had five hits and six RBI's on July 4th to lead Vegas to a big win.  New Hampshire won 2-1 behind Kenny Rodriguez first AA start of 2009.  Dunedin, Auburn and the GCL Jays also were winners, Lansing the only losers on Saturday.  Among the prospects David Cooper, Moises Sierra and Trystan Magnuson are all hot right now.

Las Vegas 14  Fresno 5

Las Vegas scored six runs in the first inning.  Kevin Howard and Brett Harper hit two run home runs, Joe Inglett hit a two run ground rule double.  Randy Ruiz added a solo home run in the fourth and Joe Inglett a three run shot in the fifth.  Inglett was 5-6 with 6 RBI's.  Ruiz was 3-6 and Harper 2-5 with 4 RBI's.  Travis Snider went 0-3, all of the outs by strikeout, with two walks.  Brian Burres pitched seven innings for the win.

Portland 1  New Hampshire 2

New Hampshire scored both their runs in the first inning, Adam Calderone singled, Brian Dopirak doubled him home and David Cooper singled home Dopirak.  The Fisher Cats had two hits in the rest of the game.  Cooper had another hit and since coming off the DL is 11-27 with two home runs.

Kenny Rodriguez made his first 2009 AA start and pitched six innings giving up one run on three hits.  Rommie Lewis and Danny Farquhar finished up.

Clearwater 1 Dunedin 8

Dunedin outhit Clearwater 15-3.  Jesus Gonzalez got things going with a two run home run in the third and then reached on an error and scored in the fifth.  Manny Rodriguez hit a two run home run in the eighth.  Rodriguez, Gonzalez and Jaspe each had three hits.  Moises Sierra had two more hits and is hitting .328.  Sierra is hitting .444 over his last ten games.

Vincent Bongiovanni gave up one run and two hits over 5 innings.  Trystan Magnuson pitched three shutout innings and has an ERA of 0.52 over his last ten games.  Magnuson had a 0.68 ERA in June and looks to be front of the line for a promotion to AA.

South Bend 7 Lansing 3

South Bend racked up 17 hits off three pitchers.  Chase Lirette had a rare rought start, he gave up three runs in the first and South Bend never looked back.  Lansing had nine hits, Chris Emanuele had three of them.

Auburn 6  Batavia 5

Starter Dave Sever had an excellent start for Auburn, 5.2 innings pitched and the only run to score off him was a strikeout victim who reached on a wild pitch.  Sever struck out 8.  Auburn's first run came when Kevin Nolan singled in Kyle Gilligan who had doubled.  In the sixth Brad Glenn hit a two run home run to put Auburn up 3-1.  It was 3-2 in the eighth when Auburn scored three, the bases were loaded with walks when Wellinton Ramirez cleared them with a triple.  Casey Beck gave up three in the bottom of the eighth but he escaped further trouble and dodged another bullet in the ninth.

GCL Phillies 2  GCL Blue Jays 3 - 11 innings

Good pitching for the Jays as they didn't allow an earned run.  Starter Carlos Pina pitched five innings giving  up the two unearned runs on four hits.  Three relievers pitched shutout ball the rest of the way, Nestor Molina pitched three, Lance Loftin two and David Slovak one.

Kenny Wilson, on rehab, scored the first run with a single, a stolen base, a ground out and a wild pitch.  The Jays tied the game in the fifth, Yudelmis Hernandez singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a Gari Pena single.  In the eleventh Nick Zaleski doubled, his second, to lead off the eleventh and went to third on a wild pitch.  A sac fly from Matthew Nuzzo won the game.

Draft update from Bob Elliot at the Canadian baseball network site.  Although I dont agree with all of his articles at the Sun he does a good job of covering Canadians in baseball at all levels.

http://www.canadianbaseballnetwork.com/node/4785

Draft update: The easy part, the drafting of players, is done for Jays scouting director Jon Lalonde (Midland, Ont.) Now, the tough part: signing them.
Lalonde will handle talks with No. 1 pick Chad Jenkins of Kennesaw State.
Paul Beaston's (Welland, Ont.) trip to Vancouver last week was cancelled, so he did not meet with lefty James Paxton (Ladner, B.C.), whom the Jays selected 37th and is represented by Scott Boras. The president will handle Paxton talks. The Boras point man is ex-Jay reliever Bill Caudill.
Assistant GM Alex Anthopoulos (Montreal, Que.) is charged with signing No. 2 pick,  lefty Jake Eliopoulos (Newmarket, Ont.)  (68th over-all).

The Jays top eight picks remain unsigned, although they’re close on fourth-rounder Dallas Baptist shortstop Ryan Goins.

Also, appears the Jays have signed 2 more players.

On Monday, the Blue Jays signed two players selected by the team during the First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. Left-hander Aaron Loup (ninth round) and right-hander Ryan Tepera (19th round) both agreed to contracts.

A quick note a personal favorite.  A Blue Jay prospect to keep your eye on, 19 year old Tyler Pastornicky of the Low A Lansing Lugnuts. A 5th rounder out of a Florida HS in the 2007 draft.

After somewhat of a rough start to the season in which he hit just .203 in the month of April, which if forgivable considering that he was playing baseball in cold weather for the first time in his life. Since April, Pastornicky has been a spark plug for the Luggies hitting in the 2 spot, getting on base and swiping all kinds of bases. he's been a model of consistency for an otherwise inconsistent Lansing Lugnuts squad.

Currently, Tyler is riding a nice 13 game hit streak, during which he has collected 18 hits in 44 ab's, and has struck out just once during the streak. Also, since April, he's stolen a total of 35 bases while being caught just 6 times.

Tyler also has a gun for an arm at shortstop, being clocked as high as 91 mph across the diamond, while playing a very steadily defensively. The only thing Tyler needs to work on is getting a bit strong so that he can add a few more extra base hits into the mix, as he only has 13 all season in 288 ab's, with no homers. But the way i see it, every stolen base after a walk or single is just the same as a double.

One final note on Tyler is his eye at the plate, which is well above average, as his BB/K ratio sits at a healthy 29 to 36. Lots to like about this guy.
minus the month of april, this is his season line:

61 games, 68 for 227, .300, 8 doubles, 3 trips, 0 hr, 20 rbi, 22 walks, 28 k's, 35 sb, 6 cs.

Few things...
-Ruiz played LF for Vegas yesterday, so he is being groomed for the next LF/DH spot if Delucci fails..
-Cooper has his bat back since his DL stint, hopefully he can keep this up
-Since Mills got called up again is seems the Jays are very low on Purcey, so Rz will be the next SP callup?

Ive been wondering why Dials is still in high A? Can anyone give me some sort of an idea. He was sent down on a DL trip but judging on how he has been doing, I'd say he is back to normal. Cant understand why they keep Boyd up and leave Dials down.. Theres no comparing the 2 when it comes to the out comes in games.

Marc to come up? Great! For the record the Las Vegas website gives his name as: Marc Rzepczynski and the site says it is pronounced: Sep-Chin-Ski.

Lets get used to it. Some question on how good he is - BUT the more recent the scouting report the better they think he is.

Out of the smoke of 09 we come out smokin' in 10.
