A crazy game in Las Vegas as the 51s managed to always stay one step ahead of Portland. That is until Brian Wolfe entered
in the ninth, trusted with an 8-5 lead. Wolfe went ahead and allowed 5 runs on four hits and a walk before Sean Stidfole finished things off. A Kevin Howard homer in the bottom half of the frame brought the 51s back to within a run but that was all she wrote.
Fabio Castro started and pitched decently enough going 6.1 and allowing four runs on 9 hits and a walk. He struck out two. Bubbie Buzachero pitched two-thirds of a scoreless frame to lower his AAA ERA to 40.50.
At the plate, Aaron Mathews had four hits, Randy Ruiz had three, while David Dellucci, Howard, and Angel Sanchez, who homered, all
contributed two hits a piece. J.P. Arencibia was 1-for-5 with 2 RBI and 3 Ks.
Erie 9 New Hampshire 4 (10 innings)
Another blown save in New Hampshire as the Fisher Cats led this one 4-0 entering the 8th thanks to a masterful start by Luis Perez. Perez worked 7.1 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. The wheels fell off fairly quickly however, as the Cats allowed two in the eighth, another pair in the ninth to knot things at 4-4 and then a five spot in the tenth thanks to Edgar Estanga.
Danny Farquhar allowed two unearned runs in his 1.1 innings while walking two and striking out three.
Brian Dopirak and Brad Emaus each had two hits. Dopirak even chipped in with his first stolen base of the year.
Dunedin- Day Off- All-Star Break
The Lugnuts did their best to blow things against the Great Lakes Loons as their 9-2 lead in the fifth was barely enough. Matthew Daly nailed down his twelfth save of the season with the tying run at second base.
Henderson Alvarez started and worked five innings allowing three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven.
Brian Van Kirk had three hits for Lansing while Balbino Fuenmayor and Luis Hernandez, with a grand slam, homered. Tyler Pastornicky went 2-for-4 with a walk, stolen base and two runs scored.
Markus Brisker singled with one out in the first for the Doubledays. That was incredibly significant because it was all they managed in losing to Batavia 5-1. Name a Doubleday, and they had an 0-fer.
Scott Gracey started for Auburn and worked 3.2 frames, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk.
It's tough finding much else to say about this one. So let's call it quits here.
