Anybody here remember Jeff Lahti? A fine RHRP for the Cardinals in the mid-1980s, he saved 19 games for the '85 Redbirds in a bullpen that also included one-time closers like Bill Campbell, Neil Allen, Todd Worrell and Doug Bair. Lahti turns 52 today -- he is the only major league alumnus born on Oct. 8, 1956.

So, um, you think, who cares? Well, it's as good an excuse as any to call to mind that today is also the 52nd anniversary of one of the most famous games ever pitched.

Thus endeth today's history lesson, from Larsen to Lahti.

Another history lesson could be 'whatever happened to'. Looking at a few AAAA guys who we all enjoyed at times.

Sal Fasano - left in a bitter fashion in the spring, feeling he deserved to be in the majors. He signed with Cleveland and got into 15 games (16 last year here) and had 54 PA's (vs 49 last year here). He did hit better, 261/340/348 for what that is worth over that many PA's. He only played 26 games in AAA and hit pretty badly - 193/272/325. I suspect that was it for his career as a player.

John-Ford Griffin - from a guy JP wanted badly, to AAAA status. Spent the year in Las Vegas and hit fairly well - 310/386/527 but played just 94 games. If he is still around he might be a good signing as cannon fodder...er...AAAA status.

Ray Olmedo - spent the year in AAA, again, but this time for Washington. 252/292/340 and entering his age 28 season that might be it for him.

Howie Clark - got into 4 games for the Twins this year. 293/341/432 in AAA but entering his age 35 season I wonder how much longer he'll keep riding those buses. I'm sure he envies Inglett.

Just saw that Gibby got that job at BBTF. Great to see he is getting another ML job quickly. Hopefully he can help KC become a respectable team again.
