There is no way around it... It was a bad night for the affiliates. Perhaps the players were all too busy checking their cell phones to see if they were traded?

Scranton 4 Syracuse 1

Jesse Litsch allowed one earned run over six innings in his second start since his demotion to Triple-A. He walked two batters and struck out six. Mike Gosling worked 1.2 scoreless innings. The Chiefs were quieted by Kei Igawa, who improved to 11-5 but cannot get batters out in the Majors. Buck Coats went 2-for-4 for the Chiefs. Russ Adams and Kevin Melillo had the only other hits.

The New Hampshire game was still in progress when I had to call it a night... They were behind 12-5 to Portland...

Tampa 6 Dunedin 0

Kyle Ginley, who has been struggling lately, was removed after just 1.1 innings and allowing one run on a solo homer. Nate Starner allowed one earned run over 4.2 emergency innings. Chad Blackwell was creamed for three runs on four hits in one inning of work. Brad Emaus, Cory Patton and Matt Liuzza each had one hit for a pathetic offensive night.

Wisconsin was leading 6-1 when I had to call it a night... 5 a.m. comes far too early...

Williamsport 5 Auburn 4 (10 innings)

Matthew Wright allowed just one unearned run in four innings and struck out seven. Dan Farquhar allowed three runs in 2.2 innings, while Justin Cryer took the loss by allowing the winning run to score in the 10th. Chris Demons was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four stolen bases. Adam Amar was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Bryan Kervin was 2-for-4 but was also picked off first base.

GCL Jays 5 GCL Yankees (suspended after five due to rain)

Rehabbing Chase Lirette worked three scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Chris Holguin was roughed up and allowed four runs in 3.2 innings. Tyler Pastornicky, Kyle Gilligan, and Justin McClanahan each went 1-for-3. Welinton Ramirez was 1-for-3 but hit a solo homer and drove in three. Kenny Wilson was 1-for-1 with a double, run scored and walk. He also stole two bases and was picked off second base.

Three Stars:
Due to the incomplete games, I thought it would be fun to leave it up to the readers... With no teams winning tonight, who deserved the stars?

It was pretty easy to spot some stellar performances tonight Marc, for instance:

Portland 1B Lars Anderson - 3/4 with a double, 2 walks and 2 RBI
Scranton/WB SP Kei Igawa - 7 IP 3 H 1 ER 2 BB 5 K
Tampa SP Zach McAllister - 7 IP 2 H 0 ER 2 BB 7 K
Portland LF Zachary Daeges - 4/5, 2 runs, a double, walk and 4 RBI

To be fair, a few baby Jays had decent nights as well, just not nearly good enough overall.  My completely subjective take on the three stars:

3rd star!  Lansing RF Moises Sierra (3/4 with his 5th triple)

2nd star!  Auburn CF Chris Demons (3/5 with 2 runs and 4 stolen bases)

1st star!  Lansing 1B David Cooper (3/4 with a double and 2 RBI)

Cooper is now batting .370/.414/.556 in 20 games with Lansing which is a near duplicate of his Auburn line of .341/.411/.553 in 21 games.  Sure seems like he's made a seamless transition to the wooden bat and that A ball is beneath him.  Honorable mention goes to Auburn SP Matthew Wright putting up his best start of the short season with 4 scoreless innings with 2 hits, 2 BB and 7 K.

There are a lot of wood bat summer leagues for college prospects to play in now (Cape Cod, Northwoods League, Alaska League, Jayhawk League, etc....)....I think most are taking advantage of playing in these leagues and are making a more seamless transition to the wood bat now.

A link to the THT interview with Fisher Cat hitting coach Ken Joyce would probably be better from a copyright perspective.

That's true, but I believe the knock on Cooper was that when he played in these leagues he did not carry over his college power. Not that we should care now that he's hitting out of his skull.

It is not clear why Cooper was not promoted to Dunedin, as Hill and Adams were after their successful visits to Auburn. It would put him on track to spend his age 22 season (2009) in New Hampshire.

I think that Cooper will still be in NH next year Mike.  I'm not sure what went behind the decision either, but I know that I heard from some sources within the minor league system that they thought Cooper would spend time in Lansing, so when it happened it really didn't surprise me.

He has a nice easy swing with good bat speed and a nice level swing that maximizes the time that the barrel is in the hitting zone.

I imagine he'll start in Dunedin and then be in NH if he's hitting really well, much like Arencibia this year.

Keeping both of them on a track that only gives them half a season at AAA. I believe that's the same path Snider is on, and the same plan that Rios (amongst others took).

Its no wonder Syracuse has traditionally sucked so bad. Our top prospects only stop there for a quick hello.

Snider went from Lansing to NH - or he would have if not for the elbow injury - so I'd expect Campbell to do the same. Maybe after a visit to the AFL?

Perhaps the Jays wanted him to spend some time with the prospects at Lansing, maybe let some of his advanced approach rub off on the kids.

Cooper, not Campbell. Duh.

Cecil took a pounding in his 1st AAA start,  The silver lining is that 7 of the 8 hits off him in 2 1/3 were via the ground ball (the other a HR) so he may have been a bit unlucky.  The fielding behind him was pretty shoddy as well.
