There were 21 hits in all for the Chiefs, but no home runs.  Sandoval and Adams each had 4, Coats and Luna had 3, and Thigpen and Mellilo had 2.

The Nuts were 3 hit in this one by (primarily) Blake Beaven.

Brett Cecil was called up to AAA, presumably replacing Scott Richmond.

Free Brian Wolfe.

The definition of "hot" for a leadoff hitter.  Scott Campbell's last 10 games- 44 PAs, 3 doubles, 4 homers, 10 walks, 4 strikeouts, or if you're old fashioned .382/.523/.824.  Over the season so far, 31 XBH, 58 walks and 53 strikeouts is a very solid and sustainable combination.

The F-Cats also won the completion of a suspended game yesterday.  Here is the game report from the Union Leader, and here is the boxscore.

The funny thing about the completion of the suspended game is that Arencibia hit a home run that is listed as his 2nd (game was completed from June 22 and JP took over from Jeroloman now in Syracuse) but was chronilogically his 10th.  Are they going to change all the box scores since June 22nd to reflect that JP has an additional HR?

Campbell is a really interesting player. He has great offensive numbers at AA (although he hasn't hit with a lot of power). Apparently his defense needs work, so I'm wondering where he fits into the organization's plans. Is he likely to make it as a starting 2B at some point? Or as more of an Inglett/Scutaro-type utility player? And when is he likely to arrive in the majors? 2010?

Its not like we're exactly struggling for the utility infielder types (Scutaro, Inglett, McDonald, Luna...) so I doubt he's going to be brought up in that role any time soon.  But I'm surprised they didn't give him a shot at Hill's job given the length of time he's been out. If we drop more than 8 games out I wouldn't be surprised to see him.

Are they stretching Brian Wolfe out to be a starter?

I can see the script developing now...Jays plucky bats get them back into the race, only to lose a couple more infielders, Inglett and Eckstein, to season ending injuries.

But Russ Adams swoops in to save the day and put the Jays in first place with a dozen multihit games...until the Jays go on a big losing streak in late September and finish third.

Despite his recent success, I see Adams has his OPS up to .666.

Yup, he's due for a late season hot streak.

Or a release.

I keep banging this drum....

Campbell = Catalanotto IMO (with variables about walk rate aside)

Ricky Romero making his debut for Triple-A Syracuse tonight.

Through his first inning, 2 hits, 1 er, 2 bb, 2 k.  The play-by-play guy says that Romero is hitting 92 mph consistantly according to the stadium gun.

Are they stretching Brian Wolfe out to be a starter?

Probably, but it doesn't make sense.  one thing makes sense though...

FREE BRIAN WOLFE

A great comparison (I thought the same too). It's possible Campbell could end up in LF as a platoon guy. Not bad if he does though.

It's possible Campbell could end up in LF as a platoon guy.

Unfortunately, not in the near future.  The Fisher Cats roster shows that they placed Campbell on the disabled list today.

Anybody know why?

Gerry - Wednesday, July 30 2008 @ 08:54 PM EDT (#189827) #
Campbell was thrown out at home plate last night and then had to leave the game.  I assume something happened in that collision, we should know more tomorrow.
